  • Flip this trailer.

You guys that have been around here for a while know why I live in a trailer. Here's the deal. My dau-in-law wants her mom and dad to move here to help her. She has asked me whether there are any trailers in my park that can be had on the cheap. Well, my next door neighbor is moving to LV real soon. She would sell me her trailer for 8 grand. The devious thing to do is make money off this deal. Any ideas?:ROTF: :ROTF:

A quick spit and polish should do the trick. Is it shabby looking at the moment?

Define "help" in this case. To make it easier for her to care for her elderly parents or so she can sponge off them since they'll be living in a cheaper place and thus theoretically have more excess money to give her?

It's a trailer, in a trailer park, so that's gotta be a big fat "yep" :ROTF:

No, you big apes, you. She wants her mom, who lives in a trailer park in Modesto CA, to come up here. Mom wants to. My dau-in-law needs her mom up here. Trust me. I came up here based on a lot of high hopes and promises from these guys. What a bust. I was just thinking that I could make a few bucks.:ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF:

I think you should buy that trailer & keep it yourself. More room for gear!

I thought about that. But the plot fee is $470 a month. I'll find room somewhere.

Inspect it real well to see if there are any problems. Plumbing, electrical, etc... Then buy it, resell it at a profit, and claim that you had "expenses" in getting it ready so DIL's mom can move in hassle-free.

Problem is, since you're "family", they may want to look at all the papers to see if you're gigging them. They might get pissed and back out on your deal if they think you're profiteering, leaving you stuck with the trailer and the lot rent. Then you have a pissed-off son and Dau-in-law and your son has a pissed-off mother-in-law, thanks to you!

So how much do you think you could make, that'd be worth those possible headaches? But if you think you can pull off a smooth deal, hey, go for it!

mixing business and family has to be approached with extreme caution. not everybody will burn family on purpose but, shit happens...sometimes beyond peoples control. when it costs family money and hardship, the drama begins. is the gain worth the risk? can you keep it rented if they stick ya? could you evict them it you needed to?
                        investment property...good long term investment
                        business with family...builds charachter

you're screwed Fett, You apparantly have a conscience and feel like you shouldn't profit from this deal or you wouldn't have brought it up, you have 2 options, first just don't do anything, (safest) or put the two parties together and let them work it out, knowing full well you will be drug into the deal and probably reget getting involved,

Great advice from all 3 of those guys! One other thing that just hit me: If they move in right by you, you're stuck with them. I love all of my & my wife's family, but in small, well-controlled doses.
