Shot these 2 on my place last year, Got a nice doe last week with the bow, I'd have to open the freezer to get a pic of her. :ROTF: Florida deer aren't known for being real big

I haven't been deer hunting I moved to TX in 87. I hunted 11 stratight seasons in Michigan and one as a "hey boy " when I was 12. I miss it, my oldest son is in 7th grade and I'd like to take him hunting...

You do realize you run the risk of me hijacking your thread J/K. Deer season is like the beginning of the holidays for me....nothing like it!

I've hit the woods about 6 or 7 times so far this season. This is my 12 year old daughter's first deer season which makes things even better. Opening day we had a turkey come into a thicket about 20 yards away...she was ready for it to step out (she thought it was a deer). On the way home she told me her heart was pounding out of her chest waiting for the deer to step out.

I got a button buck on Oct. 7th. Textbook evening hunt...I was in my stand for about an hour, he walked in, started feeding on acorns. I got him through the right lung. He ran about 20 yards...that was it. I had to drag him about 1/4 mile by myself. Last year I passed up chances at does, and ended up with an empty freezer....not this year.

I've killed three 8 poiters, & two 9's. I dont know how many does. Here is one of the 8's from a few years back:

This 9 doesnt look like it has a big rack, but it was a monster. Most of the tines were broken off from fighting:

I currently have 2 hunting related guitar projects with October Guitars:

The deer tracks neck should be done soon. It's going on a DKMG body that I'll be airbrushing in camo.

If you can pattern an early season "bachelor group" that that one...you have it made Sir! There's some good genetics in that bunch...I hope you bag that 10 point on the right! (or is it an 11 pointer?)

Those "on the hoofs" are nice, growing up near Springfield MO we used to see nice deer like that, We'd do anything to get some deer like that down here,

Doug, the one on the far right has 12..... He is the one with his face in the "chow" pile...

.... Your right, I don't imagine that the group in the pix are the best of buds at this time....

The weather here broke last week......Night time lows in the lower 30's........ It's getting right.......

BTW, I'm digging the "Buck" inlays!!!!

I have yet to see a single rub...I've seen a couple small scrapes though. I learned a rut determination system from a very sucessful local hunter a couple years ago. He claims that in the Ohio valley, that the 2nd full moon after the Autumnal Equinox (September 22) will be the peak of the rut. That puts the peak this year on Nov 5th.

My plan is to be in the woods the 3rd through the 7th. I'll have my rattleing horns, and a bottle of Tinks #69....Woohoo!
