  • Is it bad that....

my dog just ate a dozen assorted cookies? She at approximately 3 oatmeal rasin, 6 macadamia nut, and aroun 3-4 caraml chocolate pecan. and i just made them at work last night . obviously she will be sick in a few hours, but does anyone know if this is a lethal dose of toxins and such to dogs? should i have my parents call the vet ASAP?

Chocolate and nuts are really not good for dogs. Not sure if that dose would be lethal, but I'd call the vet just to be on the safe side.

Good advice, Joe. She'll probably be ok, but it is better to be on the safe side.

I had a Boxer/Pitbull mix that ate a bunch of Hershey's Kisses from a bowl of Halloween candy left on the table by my ex-wife. The dog was fine, but I guess it wasn't a lethal enough dose. Chocolate is known to be poisonous to dogs.
And a guy I used to work for had a dog that ate a bunch of nuts and was allergic and got kinda sick from them. The vet couldn't figure it out at first either, didn't think dogs could get sick from nuts.

Big dogs seem to handle the chocolate ok. My pit ate amongst other things a quarter sheet birthday cake, a kings cake, a 12" subway cold cut combo, and the better part of a quart of vermont maple syrup. The portion of syrup she was not able to eat wound up on our futon which has to be trashed. Anything and everthing was fare game if she could get to it. These are just the highlights of some of the more memorable stuff. I left out all the boxes of cereal she got out of the pantry after braking the baby lock on the door. No need to worry about you dog, mine lived to be an old girl.

My girlfriend has an Italian Greyhound who ate a whole box of chocolate bars. (the kids were selling for school) She had mushy shit for a day or 2, but she was ok. I'd call the vet, but don't worry too much.

My lab ate a whole pan of brownies and felt fine, apparently. If it's a big dog you should be OK.

Right, it all depends on how much theobromine was in it; please read all of this article:

Veterinarians have warned pet owners that cacao shells contain the same ingredient that makes chocolate toxic to dogs.

Yeah what that article said. Aside form the caffien and theobromine. Theres also the sugar factor which can also increase a dogs heart rate just like the caffine will. If the heart rate gets to high obviously a heart attck can ensue> so yeah its bad for dogs but milk chocalte is the mildest of the bunch.
