  • Yesterday was not a good day

My 14 year old step-daughter who is living with her grandmother in Louisiana tried to kill herself by swallowing a whole bottle of Tylenol. She's in the hospital but will be ok. We have no idea what happened. She said the last thing she remembered was her daddy taking her hand and saying it was time to come and stay with him. He's been dead since 1995.
My other step-daughter came to the house with her boyfriend so we could be together as a family during this crisis. Once all was somewhat settled down in the early evening her and her boyfriend left to go to a Carolina hurricanes game. She called 10 minutes later crying hysterical saying they had just been in a car wreck. She was shaken up but her and her boyfriend are fine. His Jeep is totaled but they are fine and that's all that matters.

It was a hell of a day. Just in case anybody was wondering, yes, I did stay sober...66 days and counting now.
Don't forget the corn. It's nutritious, delicious, and ribbed for her pleasure.

Sometimes things like this happen for good reason. Both your step-daughters are alive, and through all of it you stayed sober. Take it as a big neon sign that its time to focus on family, and put a feather in your cap for now you know you can win the tough battles over alcohol.

Take it as a lesson learned friend. If you make the right choices then good things will come from yesterday's bad events.

My best wishes to your family

      Best Regards,

      Steve

Jeez, Jack, that's terrible news about your girls. I hope the younger of the two gets the help she needs right now. Major kudos to you for staying clean during this - I can't imagine how difficult this must be.

          Holy moly Jack.

I hope they can help your 14 year old something triggered that in her. I recently had a bout of surreal insanity that I was able to control but I am not a 14 year old though. Hopefully she gets help because from what you said this isn't a cry for help or attention she has something in her head she needs sorted out if she is seeing her dead father. I've been there.

Human beings have been equipped to deal with anything that happens in life without getting fukked up after because of it. Unfortunately, I never use the mechanism, but i'm pretty fired up that you are on a roll with two eggs and butter Jack. Nothing can take you down dude, you're like Tex Cobb , only you can fight back, punch after punch , you keep coming back , I'm in awe of you.
A lot of us have taken the old sledgehammer to the kneecaps in the last couple of years, and I am so jaded now, I am carefree and looking diligently for the least amount of responsibility that is as humanly possible, and live my life throwing caution to the wind, the sea, and the stars. In fact, I hit this plane the other night with a bullet pass of caution that I threw right on the money that was on it's descent into orange county-lol
But you my man are a pillar of strength, a real man. dead on balls accurate here, you're the toughest fukker I know. I'm sorry for your troubles, you stay on that route"66" road that your on, and get your kicks from that in itself.
Cuz most can't get to route 30 and that's a fact. you make me smile when I hear you didn't go off when you had every reason too do it.

Thanks guys. I had a bit of help staying sober....I called my sponser from the site of my kid's accident to let him know I wouldn't be coming to a meeting so he skipped the meeting and came up to hang out with me at the accident. He's a great guy.

The truth is though, my first thought after I got the news of my younger kid was "I need a beer". The next thought though was "Why make a bad situation worse?". Drinking is no longer an option when problems come up.

Anyway, the kids are ok but my wife is still a bit freaked out but she's being strong. That in itself is huge.

One day at a time, bro. In fifteen years, I've never had a drink after calling my sponsor. So you done good.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
