Maybe a good lesson for all those who are putting all that time and work into their myspace account. Register a "real" domain and be done with it.

        Most bands do both.

If you upload your video to myspace, then get famous and MTV wants to air it...does myspace now own the rights?

Domains can be purchased for less than $15 a year and you can get a virtual hosting account for about $5 to $10 a month from a good reputable hosting company.

Sorry Matt if you wanted a legitmate site to pimp your band you should register you domain and pay for a real service.

Myspace is internet for 12-16 yr olds and is slow as chit. myspace is frustrating, slow & buggy, I only use it to check up on my kids
We do have a domain http://www.lockdown.biz as well as a Linux box for extra storage/transfer if necessary. There may be a lot of kids on there, but MySpace is THE latest thing for bands to get their music out there.

Cheesy. They could've moved you to a silightly different, but similar name location. And then they could've given you a small "if you're looking for" link at the bottom of the movie page.

                Pretty bad luck. Sorry, man.

no. Read the Billy Bragg link above. That was what he took issue with. That page also has related links that show that MySpace altered their T&Cs to allay people's concern about that possibility

It would've been nice if they had at least contacted you & offered to set you up seamlessly with "lockdownband", "lockdownmusic", etc., then let you have the old name back when this promo runs its course. Pretty heavyhanded approach, imo.

They gave us no warning whatsoever, no offers to move us, nothing. They haven't even responded to our emails asking why it happened. They have removed my repiles in thier forums as well. Just sweep us under the carpet....

That sucks ass! How hard would it be for them to do the right thing and maintain some of the good will with their users in the process? It's a stupid way to go about it.
