Without Mike, they might as well hire Britney Spears to "sing".Sure, you can get dancing girls, poodles, whatever, but the simple fact of the matter is that without him, 25% of Van Halen is missing.

Mike's backups are OK. Kinda gay, frankly, but they have been part of the VH sound in the past. The future? Not necessarily. There are tons of great bass players out there who can also sing great, and who would love to play for VH.

Mike's bass "solo" is an embarrassment. I never understood why they allowed that to happen in a Van Halen show.

If EVH & DLR play together, I want to be there, period. While I can think of lots of bass players who play and sing better than Michael (and probably better than Wolfie, too), I frankly don't care who's playing bass or singing backups. I never bought a Van Halen record for the bass or the backups, and I don't go to a Van Halen concert for those, either.

EVH and DLR are the key ingredients to Van Halen. Put them together, and I want to be there.
Mike has/had the solo's he's done due to the fact that the band is called VAN HALEN. not Anthony. It's Eddies obvious ego trip that kept Mikes playing during solos to a minimum and like he had them. Mike is an awsome bass player. Sure he's not Billy Sheehan but then the draw of a VH concert isnt the bass player its Eddie. eddie most likely set things early for Mike to not play or try to play like Sheehan to not show up Eddie. Although that would take some serious chops. Im not saying Mike couldnt do it but he is better than what eddie let him be.
With Wolfie Eddie can mold his tone and sculpt Wolfie the way he wants him to be in Van Halen. And of course being Eddies son he will say ok dad and let it happen and not put his 2 cents in.

Van Halen is the reason I lay today. That is why it pains to say.....

Fuck Eddie, fuck ALex, fuck Wolfie and what the hell. Fuck Dave too.

What a nightmare. I'd rather watch a monkey fuck a football than to pay to see Van Halen without Mike.

I completely disagree with that. As a bass player and backup vocalist, I'm pretty sure Mike would be relatively easy to replace. The keys to the original VH sound are Ed and Dave. If those two bases are covered, then the rest can be faked easily enough, even Alex if need be.
But...honestly, I can't really see the debate over the whole deal in the first place. Van Halen (as a band) should be remembered and respected for what they did in their glory years, and it's kinda sensless to try and resurrect them. My grandmother was an awesome woman in her day, and did a lot of cool shit....but right now she's 91 , in poor health, and her days are numbered. I just want to remember and respect all of the things she has done in her life, and done for me, but I don't expect her to try and prove herself all over again......Why should I expect that of Ed, or VH (as a band)?

I've always thought that Eddie thinks the band, as well as the moon and sun, revolves entirely around him. He is the band and VH is VH no matter who he has behind him.

Van Halen's sound was much more than just Eddies playing. It was a mix of the whole band. Remove a member and it no longer works the way it used to.

              No Dave = No VH
              No Mike = No VH.

Ed needs to hire a team of proctologists to pull his head out of his ass and get Dave and Mike back in that band and quit fucking around. 1 more album and 1 more world tour with the original band, then fuck off for good.

                  mm..

Would you call a Rolling Stones tour a reunion without Ron Wood? Probably not, that is my point. If it is a reunion, then it should be all four founding members.I think Eddie is pissed off because Mike's hot sauce and Sammy's tequilla sold more than Eddie did sitting around waiting for the invite to do a porno soundtrack.

If Mike came back, and Dave didn't,would it still be a reunion????

Well, I was never a big VH fan until Sammy came along..(oh dear did I say that out loud??) Dave was (is? who knows) the ultimate front man for sure. Sammy got me interested in the music, Eddie of course made me realize how I would never be as great as him on guitar....But today VH is a joke. I'm sorry for you die hard fans. Eddie is a washed up loser. Alex, well, he does what Eddie says. Wolfie..like he had a choice...Mike..stood up for himself, made some hot sauce (lookout Mark if you took lessons from Mike LOL..your cease and desist will be arriving shortly), Sammy had fun...is still having fun...
I REALLY wanted to go see the original line up, just to say I did. But now I find out Mike is toast...so ..what's the point for me..none.
Not trying to stir up the shit..just giving my point of view.

It's just a shame that Mike, an original member and all-around nice guy, gets pushed aside because Eddie has an attitude. The worst is that Wolfie will catch the flak for his dad's stubbornness on tour. You can bet he'll get some heckling and it's not really fair to him, he's just doing as his dad asks him.

It would be a lot better to have Mike on bass and let Wolfie play second guitar. Replacing that missing live rhythm guitar during solos would fatten up the sound and he'd be playing guitar, the same instrument as his dad. That would be better than scabbing as the bass player. I have no doubt he can do the job, but that really isn't the point.
                        Ron is the MAN!!!!

Summer 2007 is a long way away...Anything can happen by then...

I don't need a new VH recording to get me all warm and fuzzy inside but, I'd be interested in hearing how it sounds if Dave contributes to it. He seems to have a way of making music sound like a "Good time".

If it bombs...Oh well...Too many great bands out there to indulge in.

some folks here are on crack. You cannot replace Mike. So what he isn't the best backup singer. VH was never about being perfect. Dave also isn't a vocal god, but his voice is unique and suits for VH better than anything else, I would hate VH with Dickinson or Tate. VH is a cool rock'n'roll jam band, not progressive metal.
Altho Mike's bass solos blow, his playing for the songs is excellent. Even our own bass god Bill Z Bub said that Mike is very underrated when bass lines in the song context is concerned. VH doesn't need a bass shredder, they need somone who can groove and well.... Mike can groove.

People who just like them are talking about replacements.
