You guys need to buy the "most guitars wins" shirt off ebay!
Funny how on this forum, a persons wealth is often judged by how many guitars they own (even if they live in a $5,000.00 trailer house)
I have had many many guitars, and I have had very very few. Funny thing is....no matter which side of the fence you're on, you should always remember that musical instruments are rarely a great investment value compared to things like real estate, etc. You can easily break even, and get your money back, but to make a substantial profit?.....well, you need some good luck! 90% of the time you'll lose your ass!My goal in life is to be the kind of asshole my wife thinks I am.

Alot..you'd have to ask my girlfriend.. she's the one who does the frequent headcount. They're dispersed in four locations too-just for safe keeping.
Why do I have so many.. because I had 2-3 on rotation in school, then down to one on the road and for the many many years after.
I found myself going.. I wish I never sold the '64 or '73 SG's or the fretless wonder Les paul or the 70's strat I had in high school, or the old RnR SR Ibanez V. Guitars who were my tools and my friends on the road. I became very familar with their quirks and idiosyncrasies.. I had too. I kept one strat and it was parted & modded when on the road. The parts I kept for a long time. I intended to put it back stock.. then I sold some of those parts because I needed money when I wasn't working. That in itself was a kicker.. as parts from early 70's strats have skyrocketed.
What the neck and matching plate sells for now is what I paid for the entire guitar with a case, and I traded it for something much much less in the long run.
All those instruments have increased alot in value from whan I bought them-they're classics now.
95% of the guitars I have bought over the past 5 years, are now double what I paid. If they weren't good investments.. I guess alot of vintage guitar stores and music o rounds would be out of business.
No.. its not real estate or stock.. but you can lose money on those too.
Typically real estate is a much better return investment tho.
In the long run... they're just pieces of wood and wire.. if I have to rely on a 80 dollar import to make my living as a musician with.. I'd make it work out and not feel to bad if it was stolen.

Electric? I've decided the past couple of years (which means I probably mean it, for now...) that one strat, one shredder, and one Gibson are all I need. I have the right strat (had this guitar for almost 21 years), and the right shredder. It is the gibson that I can't seem to settle on these days.
