Treasure hunting is cool really. I've got a few detectors, though I haven't used them for several years. I've found some cool stuff. nothing really valuble though. I've known a few people who found some nice rings(read $$$) on the beach, lots of old coins, and years back, what was left of a stash of Spanish gold coins. It can be a pretty cool hobby if you have decent places to hunt and can dodge the "I'm too cool for that" crew.

Yeah, I bought one several years ago, but only used it once or twice, but, I'll be using it tomorrow on the beach for a while.
