  • action too high, fingertip damage

i'm crap at taking photos or my camera phone is on it's way out.. i keep putting off the idea of a setup on my warrior. why? i either don't trust the shop, don't want to be guitarless for 10 frikkin days or would rather spend 40 quid on booze and junk food. i'll takeup the responsibility i owe to my prized possession on payday. but in the meantime....

... is there something i can do to bring this hardened swell effect down?

How bad is your set up and what guage strings are you using?

string guage 9, action high enough to sometimes cause fingers going under adjacent strings when bending (e.g: bend B, and almost go under G). string tension seems too much. should i go for 10's and have the action lowered? by how much? admittedly, these strings have been on this guitar from factory, and i got it around sept-05 (yes i deserve a slap for that). my fingers used to take a week or so to heal, until i got my warrior - just won't put it down unless i've gotta go to work. the trem is just starting to raise (stupid me, i retuned to 435hz instead of 440 at one point). naturally, i want to heal my fingers but because the blister lookalike lumps are so hard, i'm concerned i might have to take one incredibly long break from playing. is there anything i can do to speed up the healing process or are my fingers knackered? i can't remember the last time i took a break from guitar playing, but i know it's been years..

Sounds like you have callouses on your fingers.(the hard part) These are caused by the high action and string tension. They happen to a lot of guys. Not really too much to worry about.

Can you lower the action a little without too much buzzing? Your fingers shouldn't go under the other trings when you bend.

Replace those factory strings. Everyone has their preference, but I use D'Addario 009-42.

I have low action and light gauge strings, and I still manage to jack up my fingers from time to time

^ After a good 6 or 8 hours of playing one day

OK, looks like you need to stop playing with your "bologna injector" there! Just kidding man. I've got the same problem but I'm a pussy(low action, 9-42s)!

I know nothing about guitars and set up my KV2 better than the shop did. I have no idea about itonation, but everything else is pretty simple even with a OFR.

Put slinkys on there and set it up!

i had 9's put on my dx10d on the last setup, yet there was far less tension than on my warrior. that said, there have been threads here where someone said it's better to use 10's when tuning to open-e at 440hz. i need the setup now cuz i'm sick of having skin wedged in the frets

There's a great Floyd setup thread in Tech Q&A, I think it's a sticky but if not search it. It's not hard, you just need a set of hex wrenches.

Actually, I just read that you went down to 435 and now back up to 440; you probably just need to scrw in the trem claw screws a little deeper into the body to bring the bridge back down. Probably don't even need a setup other than to get the bridge back down. Would take you all of 5-10 minutes to make the adjustment and retune. Just unlock the lock nut first so you don't pop any strings.
