  • GC grand opening.

Went to the grand opening of the Lexington Ky Guitar Center tonight OMG what a fooking nightmare!!!!!Orange, blue, green hair everywhere Jeans pulled down showing ass crack. 5 count em 5 Jacksons total not one USA Jackson.
Mostly Ibanez $99.00 guitars and Squires a few of the run of the mill Gibsons.
I asked the sales person where is the good stuff? His reply "this is it dude".
Iwalked away knowing I had no response for that answer. They didn't have a separate glassed in viewing room for the high end stuff.
I'll wait a week then go back.

GC just isn't the THE place people like to believe it is. I went to the grand opening here a couple of years ago and waited in line for a couple of hours just to get in... Was a bit disappointing and like you said, a few Jacksons and no USA's anywhere to be found. It's still like that today too.

1/2 the guitars at that place are all scuffed and pick marked up from the 12 year olds that go in there and play bad songs all day. I hate that place....well kinda I walked into one in RI the other day and they had a $3600.00 PRS on the ground on a stand where people come within inches of it every minute....finger prints and marks all over it....I dunno how they sell guitars like that

Take one of those scuffed up guitars home at full price, clean it, polish the frets, buff out the scratches and so on, and try to sell it a day later you won't get half of what you paid for it the day before.

Makes no sense. I'd never pay what they ask in the store. I look at everything they have as used gear.

I did ask another sales guy do you have any used guitars? He said not yet but they will.I never pay the asking price on anything in a GC.I even haggle on the price of small stuff.

me too. I've walked out 3 times now for them "going to their manager" and coming back not meeting my price. what the hell, you gotta try to get it for less than they are asking.

the GC's here in LA can have some interesting used shit. you see all kinds of stuff that is obscure as hell, but it's overpriced even used. and they overprice their used amps also, must be SOP for them. I only buy strings and picks and that kind of stuff there. I go there to look and try and play and waste time mostly.

they (still) have a decent Guild F212 acoustic 12 string for $999, and I bought one just 2 months ago on ebay in much better condition for $640. I mean, no wonder that guitar still sits there.

that company sells guitars and amps to people who have no clue.

A lot of parents buying X mas stuff.I had a guy in line ask me about the $99.00 Ibanez guitars he asked thats about a $300.00 guitar right?I said no why do you thinks its $99.00 they have maybe $25.00 in it.He caught on pretty quick.I have bought some great used guitars at GC in Cincy Ohio over the years so they arent all bad.

The one by metro center in phoenix has all their high end guitars up high on the wall where you need a ladder to get em' or behind the sales counter. This is great as it keeps them out of the hands of people that aren't serious about buying! They have some nice PRS, sometimes some high end Jacksons ( but not often) and plenty of upper Gibby's and Fenders.
I have actually had pretty good luck there and have been treated well. I purchased my trans blue flametop SL2H there for $1,300.00 out the door w/case in 2000 .....brand new, no flaws or scratches

The GC up in Harrisburg, PA isn't bad. The stuff looks decent. But what bugs me is they're always pushing to make a sale. They're not interested in really helping, and many don't know much about what they're selling.

Then my GC tried to take me for a ride on an Epi Joe Perry. I had just played one at a dealer new. They had one "used" for like $800. Of course I nearly jumped at the site of it. Well I sat down, and the sales guy (who was actually nice and helpful for a change) pointed out the headstock had used stamped on it from the dealer they bought it from. The serial number was also removed and replaced with a sticker of the supposive number on it. It dawned on me this: it was probably a B stock, and they removed the number and amde a sticker in its place, minus the 2 that appears at the end of b-stock epiphones. And put "Used" on the head and said they bought it from another dealer to cover their ass. Needless to say I've decide I will never buy used from them unless im 110% sure of what I'm getting.

Still not bad for new guitars, but they won't deal, and I'm the kind of person who tries to deal when possible.

I've been to that one and the one in Tempe a few times... I always walk out empty handed.
Take a close look at the green PRS hanging in the Metro location... it's been there FOREVER and hasn't been cleaned in at least a year. They want $3,800 for it.
The rest of the store is just overcrowded with cheap, low-end shit that's priced for the moron.
