  • Under Eden back in the studio - MP3s and pics

Maybe some of you fine folks saw the Blabbermouth posting or MySpace bulletin about Under Eden, but if not, we have started laying down drums for our next album while we hunt for a new label. Where there are drums, there are bound to be at least some scratch/guide guitar tracks, and it was quite the Jackson/Charvel fest going on!

    My studio rack:

    The battery:

What Chris found in a storage room at the studio:

There are more "action" pics at www.under-eden.net in the News section.

As a "JCF Exclusive" here are a couple of MP3s to give you an idea of the new material. Bear in mind that these are not mixed, mastered, properly EQ'd or anything of the sort. They are the real "keeper" drums, but the guitars were for reference only, so we didn't spend any time dialing in tones. I'm using my rack into a no-name 4x12, and Chris is just running a pedal into a Fender combo. We weren't going to stop and start over if someone screwed up the guitars in this case, so there are some flaws, but all in all, not too bad.

Cool pics, and that sounds pretty damn good to me!
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

That second tune is pretty sweet.

        Where are you guys recording?

Our vocalist, Eric, works at Two Fish Studios in Mankato. He was able to get us a good deal, and it works out slick for us. We're doing the drums at Two Fish (lots of mics and preamps, big Pro Tools rig), then doing guitars and bass at Eric's place on his home Pro Tools system. Not sure about vocals. Final mixing and maybe mastering will be done back at Two Fish. We'll use a few new songs for a demo to shop around, and probably on an EP with some older stuff until we're in a position to put out a full-length.

I love being in the studio again. If I wasn't so inept at combining music and computers, I'd probably be inclined to take up audio engineering myself. I have a little Sonar setup at home, and everything necessary to do demo-quality stuff except for drums...but I live in an apartment. And the whole ineptitude.
