  • Metal: A Headbanger's Journey

Anybody here seen the DVD Metal: A Headbanger's Journey? It's about an anthropologist who's also a metal fan. His premise is trying to figure out why metal fans love the music so much, and why it's the scapegoat for so many social ills. A co-worker let me borrow it for the long weekend, and it was pretty fun. I didn't really agree with the way he classified the bands, but that's not a big deal (let's face it, that's a less-than-exact science).

It's pretty easy to find on Amazon, but I don't know if Netflix has it. Didn't have to look, as it turns out!

I saw it at the Theatre. IMHO, one of the better Metal Docos of recent. Oh yeah, people were laughing out loud at the black metal dudes. :ROTF:

I've seen it a couple times on VH1. Pretty cool, but I don't think I'd actually buy it on DVD.

I bought it on dvd. One of the better metal documentaries I agree, not that that takes much

The Mayhem interview cracked me up..
"Who have you been talking to?? Fuck them! Fuck Germany! FUCK YOU! We're the best metalband in the world!"
            Priceless!

And check out the Cannibal Corpse interview.. I swear to you the vocalist has NO NECK!

Sam Dunn knows his metal pretty good...There will always be some difference of opinion when it comes to sub genres but, he does better than most.

My drummer knows Sam from Vancouver Island and says he is a cool guy.

The guy who wrote The collectors guide to heavy metal (Martin Popoff) know his stuff too...Also from British Colombia.

Got the DVD when it came out...The metal family tree is cool too.

What's the deal with the New Wave Of American Heavy Metal? Which bands "belong" in that category? I'm thinking americans know this better than me?

They had it running at Loud Park 2006, watch a big chunk of it and it looked good. Pre-ordered it, I'll have it the day before it hits the shelves here sometime in January. Sam seemed to be a cool dude he was filming at Loud Park for an upcoming project.

I liked it and it got me to check out some bands that I would have otherwise not have heard of. Great movie.
