    I'm currently at 6' 2", 230 lbs with a 38' waist.
Doc says I should be between 190 and 200... I haven't weighed that much in over a decade.
Anyway... turns out I have a thyroid that decided to completely stop working and really killed my energy level.
On meds now and between them and doing a boat load of major remodeling around the house, people are saying I look better.
I have crappy eating habits though, I need to eat better. That seems to be the trick for me anyway. A proper diet is key, but it can be hard to stick too.
I wish you luck Ron... I need to get off my ass and get in shape too.

Recent history on me. Im 6ft 4in and was about 265 about 8 months ago with a snug 40in waist. I worked the sales floor at GC and would have an irregular schedule and eat late at night when i got home from work. I would sleep until noon cus ihad to be at work at 1. Then eat lunch around 4. when i got home which was sometimes well past 10. I would again. This was packin on the pounds slowly but surely. I had to keep buying larger pants and went up a shirt size that was startin to get a bit small. In April i finaly made the move inot Operations and warhouse at work. Im now the warehouse mgr and work out 3 times a week unloading the trucks and putting away and moving the stock. I've lost about 15lbs and over 2in off my waist since then. Ive gotten a regular eating schedual and try not to eat to much past 8. Instead of eating till i was full. Im now eating less and only eating to replenish my system with the energy it needs. Im not stuffing my face like i used to. I've cut out the snacks. I eat more veggies. I havnt really changed what i eat so much as i have how much. Less portions and i usualy only eat twice a day. My breakfast is typicaly a donut in the morning with a dr pepper on the way to work. I burn that off by noon moving stuff around the warehouse and i dont stop working til about 2-3 when i go to lunch. I try to eat as good as possable but dont over do it and get food coma. lol So i can burn some of that off in the after noon. I then go home about 5 and do stuff around the apt. Like clean etc.. (ok not always but its a good thought right?) I eat when i get hungry which is some times not till morning. Id rather go to bed not eating then eat just to be eating and put the weight on while im sleeping. I stopped drinkin pop at home and have gone to unsweetened iced tea. Its helped quite a bit to keep things regular too. lol so the only pop i have now is the dr pepper in the morning and occasionly at lunch. other than that its water or iced tea. The occasionly beer on weekends out. reduced portionsand a regular "real schedual" have helped me alot. I still want to loose about another 25-30 lbs at the rate im goin its gonna be awhile but i think it will be worth it.

Ron good luck man i know you can do it.

K, I walked down by the Toyota dealership...also popped into a couple gas marts looking for a cappuccino muffin (Bad Ron!) but, luckily, neither place had one in stock!

Bad Ron! Have some willpower don't be such a whimp! I've dropped a decent amount of weight (about 30lbs) since coming here just by eating decently and cutting out sweets and soft drinks. Try and find something healthy to snack on like tofu or ginger maybe a small amount of plain yogurt. Also drink a lot of water or home brewed tea. No diet crap, no artificial sweeteners! WATER!
Keep walking though, some people recommend an hour a day.

                      Good luck to you Ron!

I used to walk 3 miles a day (1.5 in the AM and 1.5 in the PM) as part of my commute. Last March I moved to an apartment much closer to the train station, and I've put on over 20 pounds in one year.

Right now I'm 158lb, at 5'11". I weighed a little less than 180lb 12 years ago, dropped to 140lb over a year or so, and stayed at that weight for about 10 years prior to my recent weight gain.

Time for me to get back on my bike, I guess.

Ron don't be so hard on yourself bro..you're a cool , very likeable dude..I don't make friends with "dickholes" right???

Is this a self esteem and health issue..do whatever it take to make you feel better about yourself..

Don't worry so much about what others think of you.

Listen, my dad is a much bigger (fatter) guy than you..he always was. BUT he always has pussy falling out of his pockets..literally..he once shuffled 5-6 realtionships at once..including my mom, yeah, they're still married..but now he's down two..in which I have a cool half brother..yep, sounds fucked up , but that was always my father's life style and my mom knew that from the very start..she accepted it as a package deal....so..eh.

He is 5"8" and with age dwindled down to about 5'6"-5' 7" and goes about 325-350lbs...but if you met my dad..you would immediately see his "magnatism"..he just has that confidence..I guess I got alot of that from him.

People really pick up on that whole body language, confidence vibe regaurdless of how much you weigh..

Myself..I don't try anymore..I'm hurt so I don't work out..I used to alot..but that just puts me in MAJOR pain..so that's not good..but I still carry that confidence thing with me..I'm a terse, cocky cock..it works for me and my dad!

                        I'm 5' 8" and 225 lbs..but I don't care..I just don't want to get fat to where I can't see my wife blowing me..that's all I ask..from that point on, it's just maintenence..

When I was working out and had to lose weight FAST while in the police academy..I went from 240lbs to 185lbs in 18 weeks..I ate really healthy..my wife cooks and bakes a lot of chicken..I just cut out all the "crap"..like chips..and ESPECIALLY soda, pop..coke, pepsi..whatever..

I can drop about 15-20 lbs in a single month by just cutting out ALL the pop..pop really bloats my ass big time quick..more than anything else..and I LOVE Coke..I drink a 6 pack of Coke a day..but like I said I don't care..because I can still see my PP..when my belly starts to eclipse my PP..I will lose the pop..

Good luck man..you need to feel good about yourself..when you do, others will too..nobody is really ahppy with their appearance no matter how "purdy" thery are..NOBODY!!

But remeber this..no matter what we do to stay healthy..we are dying with every breathe we take..with each breath we die a little more..this is true..so we are not really "living"..we ALL are just slowly DYING..so have some fun..and any of us can go at any time...poof just like that!

It's great that you're taking steps to take care of yourself..but set reasonable goals and stay to stick with it the best you can..and if you happen to fail..Dude, you're still Ron..and that's all you need to be. IMO!!

                        Take care bro..

Ok, so I said I'd post more today. Ron, first of all, I am happy that you started this thread.

Tekky and I were toying with the idea of starting a weight loss sticky "fat bastard club" thread last year, but for whatever reason, it did not fly with the other admins.

I have been overweight for my entire life. Always much heavier than all my friends and a big waist size for my height and weight. I appear to carry it better than someone my height should. My older brother, who is an RN and sees a lot of overweight payients thought I weighd 185 by looking at me. At that time I was 212.

That said, my heaviest was 265 with a 46" waist. That was about 7 years ago. I was working as a mechanic for a forklift company. Kathy took a picture of me as I was bending over to choke my Low Rider. When I saw the picture, I was like, "Do I really look that fat?" All she could say is, "Yeah."

That was it for me. I severely changed my eating habits. Over the course of a year or so I dropped to 175 with a 36" waist, which is still way overweight for 5'6". People thought I was dying. I got questions and concern from family members who thought I was sick and not telling anyone.

That is what baffles me. At 5'6" and 175, I looked like a concentration camp victim. How can that be? By all the weight standard charts, I should only be a MAX of like 164.

Is there any truth to the old, "My mom says I am big boned"?

To make a long story short, I let myself get back up to 185 where I felt and looked better again. In the academy for the NJDOC I gained 10 pounds. In the nearly 5 years I have been an officer, I have gained until I weighed 229.

About 2 months ago I started a new post at work. I now spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week in an armed tower. It is very small, like 10x10. Not a lot of moving around or excercise at all. I knew I had to modify my eating habits and I did.

I started in the tower at 217. I weighed myself this morning and I am tipping the scale at 205. I guess it is working.

Let's keep this thread going and keep up the motivation.
