  • Old Sabbath Appreciation Thread

The Albums (that sounds funny) with Ozzy are some of my favorite stuff. Lately I have been loving the Never say Die album, but I think Vol. 4 is probably my all time favorite. Anyone else here old Black Sabbath Fans? The recent tours have been OK but I wish they would play some more of the obscure stuff thats much better than your tradition Sabbath stuff like War Pigs and Sweet Leaf. Anyway hats off to the KINGS of METAL

I love the old Sabbath stuff the best too. I got into them at a young age, maybe 6th or 7th grade back in the 70's. Paranoid was my first Sabbath album, but I think my favorite is their first record.

Not to just be contrary, but I gotta disagree. I recently got all the old Ozzy Sabbath cds, and I was bored silly. Master Of Reality may have been the best one. By far the best Ozzy era stuff was on "We Sold Our Soul...", the rest was just atrocious - almost unlistenable. The Dio Sabbath was much better, at least as far as having an album full of consistantly decent tracks. Even Dehumanizer was better. When Ozzy left, not only did Sabbath get better, but Ozzy was better too; a good thing all around.

          My humble opinion.

Beaner..Bro, how old are you..when you hear Sabbath as a tot..that shit is a life chaging experience..like when Van Halen just came out..

I do love the Dio Stuff..a whole different era and band to me..I was alot older by then and bought that shit new after VH came out.

But I'm 42 years old..when I was 8 years old and I first heard Iron Man..that scared the shit outta me..and I loved that!

My thoughts exactly Bill...I was in 7th grade when I first heard them. I am 38 now. I also like the Dio stuff....Mob rules....Heaven and Hell....but the original is just mind warpingly powerful

Bill Z - Actually, same age as you, 42. And Iron Man scared me as a kid too!! And I like Iron Man, but that is one of the shining moments on the cd. The other songs kinda blow.

I wish I had the cd's with me now at work so I could give examples.

But then again, I know I'm in a minority around here as far as what constitutes a good album. There was a thread a week or two ago about Schenker. Now I can appreciate his guitar work, but I just can't for the life of me see how everyone was saying his first couple albums were so great. The song writing was soooo boring. His best work was when other people were writing the songs, like in UFO and his couple efforts in the Scorpions.

Everyone thinks I'm fulla crap - but I make myself happy

Yeah, old Sabbath was formative for me too. I liked Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules too but it wasn't the same without Ozzy.

The first album is the best, and one of the greatest albums ever recorded. It invented real metal................

Now here's an appreciation thread I can appreciate.

Ozzy years for me too... Wasn't that big on Dio, but Children Of The Sea rocks.
