  • UFO - Vinnie Moore

Saw UFO a couple of nights ago. I've never been a big UFO fan, & know little of their stuff, other than what Schenker still plays live. London Astoria, stood in the upper bar - my only review comments - Vinnie Moore F**kin' rocks! I'd love to see him playing "his own", rather than UFO, stuff, but great gig!
Wal - Good from far, but far from good

Glad to hear they're still rocking on. Was Andy Parker playing drums still? Vinnie can definately shred, although I'm not to big a fan of the last 2 albums...

Agreed, guitarnut. I love UFO with Schenker, saw them on the Walk on Water tour, really really good. I wasn't too keen to see them with Vinnie Moore, but have to take my hat off to him, he didn't put a foot wrong, and some of the leads he played were blinding without losing that classic UFO feel.

But as for the rest of the band.......they were showing their age a bit! Like no other band I have seen over the years, I hope it's down to wild living. No faulting Phil Mogg's voice, it was dead on, but didn't he look old and tired? Pete Way still looks erm, "Way-sted" , stumbling around, but I wouldn't want anything other. That's Pete Way!! Paul Raymond looks more and more like Keef Richards every day (no, really), and Andy Parker just looks oooooold AND fat!!

The worst thing about the gig I went to (Northampton) was the turn-out. Piss-poor, to say the least! Shame, because it was a great gig.
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

      I nearly broke her back

UFO was my first favorite band and Schenker inspired me to pick up my first guitar.

while I like some UFO stuff without Schenker, most of it is more like UFO-lite. the best non-Schenker UFO album is Misdemeanor, there are some great songs and awesome Paul Raymond keyboards on that one, and Atomic Tommy's guitar playing was excellent and organic.

I respect Vinnie Moore but his playing on the new UFO cd kinda does nothing for me.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

on second thought, the best non-Schenker UFO album was actually not a UFO album at all, it was MoggWay's cd called Chocolate Box, from like 2000. Jeff Kollman played guitar with the otherwise UFO lineup (Schenker still had rights to the UFO name at that point, before he went off the deep end) and Kollman fucking KILLS it on that cd. he's a shredder with soul and he really brings it. great songs and great singing by Phil.

any UFO fan would love Chocolate Box by MoggWay.
