  • before i shoot my mouth off, advice please

before i go off on one, slate the shop who fucked up my guitar, and wind up prosecuted, i'll give you the story. then you decide whether i should have this rant moved to the feedback section..

i decided to have my warrior set up. after 14 months, the action was too high, the trem was leaning forward and the strings were never changed (the first guitar i owned without ever breaking a string). the turbocharger pot needed a little tweaking, but that's all. the only cosmetic damage was a tiny chip (1st coat only) on the lower fin's corner and light buckle rash on the back.

i come to pick it up and the TC knob is scraping the body, the signal is only output when you push the cable jack at an angle, and the upper side of the body now has tons of surface scratches. i'm now told it'll cost 20 quid to replace the output socket. my guitar was NOT like this before i took it in and i told them that. as far as i see it, i trusted them, and they've killed my baby. I've yet to see the end of this horror story.

i did not buy the guitar from them. i only got them to do the set up cuz the actual shop that sold it to me took 10 days to set up my other guitar. the receipt clearly states: full setup, lower action/intonation, super's 9's, push pot, service electrics, new battery. in the warranty box it says 'no'... but wtf does it say 'we can cause damage and charge you to have it corrected and scratch the fuck out of it without retribution'? nowhere, that's where. surely retailers owe a 'duty of care' by law to prevent assholes killing our prized possessions? and should i have to spend my xmas bonus because these baboons screwed my guitar, do i have the right to expose them in the feedback section of this forum?

How hard is it to establish "self defense" in UK courts?

"Your honor, he was coming right at me with a pointy guitar... I felt I had no choice but to brandish my knife... But in the heat of the moment, I dropped the knife, and he fell on it... 15 times..."

Barring that, I'd say definitely go ahead and write them up in the Feedback section.

It may help other people to avoid that shop.

If you addressed the owner of the shop and he blew you off, then yeah you should let your fellow UK JCFers know about him.

Sucks to hear about that... That is why I learned to do most everything myself and now I do it for my friends as well...

Get a book bro, and a good tuner... Do it yourself...

Hope they step up and take care of you. Good luck.

i thought all shops offered free set-up when you buy a guitar from them...

Best thing to do bro is learn how to do it on your own. Youll be much better off, and will save yourself some $$$ and anguish!

All of that stuff you should learn how to do yourself man. If I called a guitar my baby I wouldnt let anyone else touch it! (like my soloist! even my old man doesnt get to touch its innards). Some people naturally suck at stuff like this, but if you can play guitar you have more then enough skill imo. Read alot about the stuff you want to do, map it out in your head or on paper and just roll with it. You'll eventually learn how to make it a magnificent playing guitar and have the satisfaction of having done that yourself. Only you will know what you like in a setup too. I like a low action, but my schecter hellraiser needed the strings higher to get the right tone I wanted, so I found the sweet spot. Theres no right or wrong setup either, all personal preference, so experiment!
