Can't bash Zakk myself, I have a lot of respect for the dude. Everyone always says that he wouldn't be anybody if it weren't for Ozzy, and that's possibly true, but you've got to remember that Ozzy PICKED Zakk. He could have had any guitar player he wanted. After all, between Randy, Jake, and Zakk, I think it's obvious that Ozzy knows how to pick a guitarist.

There may be technically "better" players out there..but as soon as you hear Zakk you KNOW it's him!!

He took from a players like Sykes and Marino, amoung others..and cultivated his own his sig, that's for certain!!

I hate the fact that such a tough guy is just a Ozzy's and Sharon's ass licker, he knows they are scum but hasn't the balls to tell them the truth. I kinda understand it though, he doesn't want to loose his income.

Ozzy/Sharon camp has always been involved with all the acts that Zakk hates, you know those grunge or nu metal guys or whatever and Zakk's always in a very crappy situation because of that.

As far as his music goes, I dug his first albums with Ozzy, I liked a couple of his own albums 1919 was the last one I dug. He can be very repeative and it gets boring.

Lately I don't care about his soloing either, too repative and it's a "Starter/Junior Pack" version of John Sykes IMHO. As one of the biggest Sykes fans I find it very easy to play like Zakk, my last band wanted me to play like Zakk, everyone who saw us then said that I sounded 100% like Zakk. The whole banad started to sound like a BLS. I hated that, there's too many Zakk wannabes out there allready, I don't want to play like that but I can without effort.

Yeah..my wife and kid say I sound mostly like Zakk Wydle..prolly cuz of the squeals I always do..but I always did those..I also love Sykes and Marino as well as Eddie..so that's just in "the soup"..

I'm not a structured players at all ..I just regurgitate all my influences with my spin on it ..I don't play other people stuff no matter how much I love it..I don't watch hours of Yngwie and Gilbert instructional tapes trying to learn THEIR thing..but it does inspire me to do MY thing..which is pretty good.

I have a lot of friends that are complete theory nuts and can certainly blaze, doing entire YJM opuses and shit..but they can NOT write originals very well or duplicate what I do..I'm unorthadox, but it works.

Is Zakk a structured player..I think he is..is he??

I know Eddie took piano lessons and shit ..but didn't really apply that to guitar..he was just naturally awesome..The same with Dime, I think and certainly Jeff Loomis..Jeff told me straight out "Bill, I don't know what the fuck I'm doing, I just go for it"..his quote verbatim.

Randy was very structured and awesome...I prolly could sit with the cd and learn that stuff, but why..it's his and there is too many who do cover it very well..so why bother.

Yes, Zakk is very structured, at that time I was heavily into avant-garde jazz/fusion and players like Holdsworth and Gambale were the shit, so playing like Zakk was gay to me

Ed took piano lessons but he doesn't know much about theory, Steve Lukather told in an interview that Ed can play crazy jazz chords on a guitar and piano but doesn't know what those things are really. Ed asked about a chord and Steve said D9 (if I remeber correctly) and Ed was like, so does that mean I have to play D nine times?

Like I said, i give him respect because he can play everyone else's music pretty damn near perfect. But when it comes to writting he is no where in the same league as Randy and Jake.

I don't think Ozzy picked Zakk for his resemblence to Randy. If that were the case, he wouldn't have picked Jake, Brad, Joe Holmes etc...
And because of the same guitars Randy played?....Jake didn't play Les Pauls or Jacksons....see my point? As far as ability to pull off playing Randy, Jake stuff...yeah! He does it with his own twist, just as Jake did Randy's stuff with HIS own twist.

yea, being able to nail all of Jake & Randy's music AND having great stage presence is probably fair indication that he wouldn't have gone far as a guitarist without Ozzy
