Jeeze....I am scared to ask but as far as the rules go...just curious as to why if we are selling something in the classifieds we have to list a price but if a dealer posts something they can just say "call me if interested" I dont really get that so please clue me in.

Jackson implemented the MAP - Minimum Advertised Price - to level the playing field. Musician's Friend and other giant dealers buy at high volume for low prices, and can either sell at or $10 above what they paid and still make a profit off of everything else to cover any losses.
Smaller dealers can't compete like that and stay in business.
MF advertises the MSRP for USA Jacksons as the "street price", sometimes only $100 or so less. Smaller dealers know they can beat those prices and still make a profit, but MF relies on clueless buyers to plop down Custom Shop prices for USA Selects, so the smaller dealers can't advertise their "street" prices.
How this relates to the Classifieds, there were too many "make offer" threads, which in essence turned it into a secret bidding war.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Thanks Matt. Still does not answer why the dealers do not have to post a price. Lets be real. If I advertise a git in the classifieds for $1000.00 I hope nobody here thinks I would not get a ton of how about 900 or 850 or 925 PM's from all the members who are interested. Again, why does a dealer not have to post a price ???? because of MAP? yeah so they post the MAP then and haggle from there. Still does not make sense to me because dealers here have posted used gear still with no price

I would assume that another reason dealers don't have to post a price is that they (the ones posting) are board sponsors. That's why they have their own section where they can post "contact me for price", and advertise their gear.
They HAVE to follow the MAP rules. As PAYING sponsors who are spending part of their advertising budget, they are allowed to post "contact me for price" because of their "sponsor" status. I don't recall seeing a sponsor/dealer ad in the classifieds with a "contact me for price" listing. You aren't confusing the dealer ads section with the classifieds section are you?

A Jackson dealer is not allowed to suggest that they will sell something for less than the Minimum Advertised Price. If a Dealer were to post a price, it HAS to be the MAP price or above. They cannot say anything like "$1400 or best offer" or "Price too low to print". If that were the case, why have a MAP price at all. And yes, MAP is there to mostly protect the small dealers. I know of a Manufacturer I rarely deal with anymore because I am so sick and tired of getting somthing from them only to see Musicians Friend selling it for $10 over cost and a lot of times below cost. I won't name any names, but thier name starts with an "N", ends with a "Y" and the sell a lot of Wireless stuff. It ends up hurting the Manufacturer in the long run because a dealer will ask for a price sheet, see his best possible price on that sheet as $110 and see Musicians Friend selling them for $105. Why on God's Green Earth would anyone want to deal with that ?

GEEEEEZZZZUSSSS yes I know about MAP. I am not talking about posting lower than MAP I am just asking why the dealers dont have to post a price. Never said anything about MAP Read the question please! Again....dealers here have posted used gear yet with no price...I post a piece of used gear with no price....strongbad says "DELETED"
In other words....Johnny dealer posts a guitar on the board....why does johnny not have to post a price? Not saying it has to be the Fuggin lowest price tolerable just post a price so we know wht the fuggin guitar is worth. Then let the PM's flow and the haggling begin. It makes no sense..

I dont think the classifieds and the dealer section have the same rules. I havnt seen any dealer posted ads in the classifieds without a price. And in the dealer section you have the map rules for new stuff and possibly they get cut some slack on used gear ads as they are board sponsors? Just a theory.

Ok, for USED GEAR, it's MOST LIKELY because there's a GRAY AREA regarding used prices, and what exactly constitutes "USED". Some dealers may declare an in-store demo that was never sold but has been played by anyone for any length of time as "USED" - whether it's been beat to death or was played once by anyone and then put in the back so no one else would ever play it, just so the dealer can sell and advertise a new guitar for below MAP.
There's 1000 ways around every rule in the book, and both sides have to watch what "the other guy" is doing.
What a guitar is worth and what it frequently sells for are two different things.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

I don't check every thread in that section, so there's a good chance I've just overlooked it. But when did any of the board dealers post a secondhand guitar without a price? How far back do we have to go to find that WTS by a dealer? I just went 5 pages back and couldn't find a single thread started by a dealer in there, let alone any without a price on a piece of secondhand gear.
I've seen this point raised a couple of times lately, but have yet to see an exampleHail yesterday
