I am going to have to try the Chantix, FatKat. I hope it works as good as you say because my willpower is pretty nonexistent, at least with cigarettes and guitars.

Congratulations! 16 months for me! and i went cold turkey...yeah it gets easier as the nicotine leaves the system and the craving stops....and around smoke i feel sick as well...it's too expensive here in England 4.35 - 5 quid for a pack of 20, what kind of price is that? no way am i funding the govenment anymore....Oh yeah and i finally put some weight on at last and look better for it so everyone is saying.....SMOKING has become an anti-social habit and i got sick of the no smoking places etc etc so come on the rest of you, give up for the new year.......we will support you.
p.s oh and i don't drink never have neither do i do drugs, some may call me boring, but far from it!
YOu have to quit cold turkey, cutting down does NOT work.
CONGRATS to the rest of you who have managed to quit and stuck with it!!!!!!!!! Keep it up!Last edited by 24seven; 12-12-2006, 05:06 AM.

I never bothered starting myself even though almost everyone in my family and most of my friends do it. It's just too damn expensive!
Plus I see how people without smoke are constantly freeloading cigarettes of those who have, it makes me sick how shameless some of them are!
To you who have quit: Congratulations, look forward to better health and a slightly improved economy"This ain't no Arsenio Hall show, destroy something!"

I quit in november 1999 from 17 years almost two packs a day cold turkey. Best decision ever. I still wonder how easy it was. I didn´t feel any strong impact on my system actually. I did it when I went to vacation. I maybe had a few drinks more to compensate me for my loss LOL. But that was it.
Now will anybody tell me how to loose the almost 10 Kilos I put up afterwards ... LOL.

I quit cold tukey back in 92 after smoking for 12 years. I can't stand to be around it now. Since I quit, I have buried 3 family members that died of lung cancer...including my Dad. Anyone who has trouble quitting needs to visit a lung cancer patient. If that doesnt make a person quit...nothing will!
Ohio just passed a statewide smoking ban. It was an issue on the ballot back in Nov. No more smoking in ANY buildings in Ohio (including bars & bowling alleys).>>--HuntinDoug-->

HuntinDoug, you just reminded me, when i was on a sports injury course, we went to a university where they had dead corpses and different diseases people died of and donated, you could see them in jars......regarding the lungs we could take one out of this person (headless), i did so and it was the blackest lung i had held in my hand, spongy like, at the time it didn't put me off........i had to make the decision when i quit and not when someone else told me......I really don't think tobacco tastes like it used to? is it me or what? gosh i've smoked for over 30 years! so it was time to quit!

Actually, my girlfriend smokes so we we're out to dinner the other night and I conceded to the 'smoking' section of Applebee's. We got into a discussion about smoke rings as she was smoking and sure enough, I took a drag, still could do it, but I couldn't inhale. Sounds like Clinton. No matter how stressed thing get, I don't believe I could start smoking again, they just taste terrible to me now and I'd like to keep it that way.

Congratulations on hanging tough! I know it's the hardest habit to beat, with people around you doing it. We're gettying closer to the day when people will only be able to smoke in theiur homes and cars anyway, so may as well try and beat the curve!
People are flipping out here in MS because we have a movement to ban smoking in all public buildings including bars and restaurants. As in CA the approach is worker safety. It's funny watching the smokers invoke Paul Revere and the Founding Fathers!
It's inevitable...Ron is the MAN!!!!

I have done the patch, the gum and cold turkey over the years but it was always the constant craving that held me back.
The two hour drive to work and then back home, sittin in traffic- Light a Smoke
Step out of the office into the shop- Light a Smoke
Get aggravated- Light a Smoke
Just take a brake- Light a Smoke
It was a habit! It had some strong cravings, like first thing in the morning after getting up.
After the first week on the CHANTIX all of the cravings were all but gone. I would buy a pack and the only tome I had trouble was at work. At home it was easy.
It took me about a month and a half but at this point I have no cravings at all.
Good luck to anyone trying to stop, If you need some help CHANTIX helped me.
The guitars! I can't help you with that.
