  • Been a year since I quit smoking!!

Today is the 1 year anniversary of me quitting smoking. It was actually yesterday the 10th that I decided to after a real bad case of bronchitis.

But the 11th was the first full day without a cigarette. It was hard in the beginning, and without thinking about it, as time went on...it got easier. The cravings became further and few between. Quite honestly, the smell of smoke makes me nauseous now. So for those looking to quit...I won't say it's easy, and cold-turkey like I did it is not for everyone. But I'm proud, after 1 year to be smoke free!

      Awesome!
3 years and 13 days ago for me.
Pretty hard after 20 years of smoking, but well worth it.

Congrats , It has been almost nine years for me. I did it the same way cold turkey. The first few weeks sucked as I felt like I was stoned all the time(well maybe it was not the bad ) . I have had a few slip ups over the years , but usually a lot of alcohol was involved and always regretting it the next day.Nothing like waking up with a hangover and feeling like someone slammed you in the chest with a bat.I still have cravings from time to time , but more often than not the smoke makes me cough and my eyes water.

Congrats!! Been 4 years and a couple of weeks here. I did it cold turkey too. I was very ill, and tried to die...(long story) but I dropped the cigs and have never wanted another one. It's never once bothered me, even with drinking. I'm proud of you. Let's have this conversation again in another year, OK??

                    Congrats!!
I'm on day sevan with out a smoke I had been working on stopping for a couple of months.
I do have some help in the form of a new pill called CHANTIX, the dam stuff is incredable. I have been smoking for 35 years and this stuff stops the cravings almost instantly.

                      Wow..thanks for all the congrats...

and to those who have quit...major kudos to you as well!! FATKAT...hang in there bro! It will slowly get easier...and you have some help there!
                      One day at a time!

Tommy...to each his own man! I thought the exact same thing for many years (I'd been smoking for 18 years) that why bother quitting...I'll probably just go back to it anyway. And that was the case several times!
I'd quit for a few months only to go back and cave in to the cravings.

                      This time ....it's for real!

I am trying to quit now. I was up to 2 packs a day and am making a pack last anywhere from 2-4 days. Just tired of the smell, the hacking, being out of shape, wasted money and wasted time chasing them down. -Lou

For me it was smoke or don't smoke... nothing else worked. Patch, gum... I even took Zyban, and I hate pills... all that did was make me so horny (and hyper) all the time the wife begged me to stop taking it LOL. But once I made up my mind I wasn't going to smoke anymore it really wasn't bad. I think stringing yourself along on nicotine is harder, was for me anyway. I've heard that it's as or more addictive than heroine, and how many people have your heard of "cutting down" on smack? eh?

Anyway I smoked for like 15 years, and some time in 2003 (I'm thinking January) was the last time I had so much as a puff on a cigarette. I intentionally didn't note what day or time it was because I felt that would make it like I was quitting for a specific period of time and that was not an option.

Now if I can just figure out how to get my girl to quit.... grr.

speaking from experience, cigarettes are a must, but the huge difference between quitting miracle whip and quitting cigarettes is like throwing me in the ring against Mike Tyson in his prime, no contest, and yes, I've never heard of a casual heroin user in my life, and they only exist when they first try it a few times and either cling to it or smartly drop it without acare in the world, and to them I say- you lucky on of a guns.
