Did you ask any questions before hitting the buy it now? I always ask the normal scratches, dings, gouges, neck issues...blah, blah, blah questions on everything I buy. Why? Because I bought an RR3R on eBay once, and I didn't ask the questions and received a peice of shit. I blamed myself as much as the asshole rogue who didn't disclose any of the issues in the item description.

Sorry to hear it happened to you. Who knows, maybe the seller will be a straight up individual and make it right.

Do you buy these things to play? For parts? What? I honestly just don't get it. I know it's nobodys biz except yours, so feel free to tell me to fuck off.
No, problem. It's like collecting anything else. I just collect cheap guitars. Some are very very good, while others are not so good. I have had a philosphy of buying most everything I own "Used". One reason is I can buy good quailty stuff at a mere fraction of the retail price. Clothes are a good example. I'm a big man. Even if I wanted to pay retail, big and tall clothes are hard to find. Thriftstores fill the bill. Shoes are another example. All my pots and pans are old Revere Ware. Why, because they are inexpensive and the best cookware you can use. I also think vintage stuff is better made. As to why guitars specifically, because I like them. I also get a knick out of finding out that a "Cheap" guitar can play and be built every bit as well as a pricey one. I just don't get why anyone would buy "New" or "Retail" There's more to it, but I would need to go to a Shrink.

        Whaddya mean "would"? :ROTF:

I hear ya on the cheap guitars, though. People would be surprised how 20 years of knowledge in playing and setting up a guitar will make those old Hondos from our youth into "good" guitars

Anyhoo, on one hand I'd say "it only cost $100, live with it" but on the other hand, it wasn't advertised as needing any majjor work like the nut. It's not a simple question of shaving the end of the board even and reglueing the nut - the end of the board may already be too short, which means it'll never intonate.

Now, what you COULD do is convert it for slide use. Shim the back of the nut as much as you need to get it straight and raise the bridge (a new nut will be taller as well, so it'll be like a Steel Guitar - really high off the board).

Actually, it plays well. My vision isn't the greatest and sometimes I miss stuff. Hence, the thread. BTW, there are no $50 guitars at the pawnshop I go to. I am not a big advocate of asking questions of the seller. I do a lot of BIN. The two recent Charvels (Mod 1 and 275 DLX) were BIN. No time for questions. That's the chance I take. In this instance, the defect should have been disclosed in writing because it wasn't visible.

I totally agree about buying "used". It's the same with buying "new" vehicles too. Let someone else eat that initial depreciation, get the first few scratches on it, then you can buy it and enjoy it!

Here's another point. Maybe I take some of the defects lightly because I know I can fix them. I could even install another neck. If I bought this guitar without the availabilty of parts to repair it, I would be really pissed off. How much do you think it would cost to have the repair done by a "Tech"? More than the price of the guitar, I would bet.

you can replace the nut...the bottom of the headstock looks like it has been shaved so the shape isn't the best.then again it's a Squire.

Fett, I may bust your chops a bit, but all in good fun. I can totally relate on the fact that cheap guitars can be made to play and sound great. When I was gigging, one of my favorite guitars to bring was an old Samick LP Custom copy. Laugh all you want, it plays, sounds and feels similar to my Gibson LPC. And it cost me 1300 less.

I replaced some of the stuff on here with newer stuff I had in my parts bin and a couple new things. A real workhorse. Worst thing about it is the plastic inlays. Everything else is a-ok. Solid, not ply either.

Some of my other Squires from that era have the same shape. It hasn't been shaved.

You guys can't bust my chops. My red beard protects me. Not only that, if I were a sensitive guy I wouldn't post what I do. Bring it on. Speaking of chops, I will wait until after X-Mas to bust his. I don't want to have him to feel bad.

Definitely confront the seller about the misrepresentation, and include your pics in the note. This has happened to me before with a 100% positive feedback seller, and I was able to negotiate a discount that I felt made the deal reasonable.

How do you figure? Every Strat I've seen has the nut placed just like that. Here's the headstock from my Strat.

And here's Fett's. It just looks a little chewed up, and there's no truss rod adjusment at the nut either, obviously.

It's chewed up even worse than the picture shows. Ah, who needs to adjust a trussrod anyhow?
