Ive shipped with out a case before with no trouble. I wrapped the guitar in alot of bubble wrap. then packed it in a box and then shoved bubble wrap and newspaper in box for added protection. I never use UPS I use USPS priority so it gets there faster . The less time they have it the better off it will be

I've only ever used UPS to ship a guitar... no problems whatsoever, even when I've shipped without a case. Though, I usually bubble wrap the guitar, put it in a cheap gig bag, bubble wrap that, then some peanuts or newspaper or whatever packing materials inside the box. Double boxing is a pretty good idea, too.
Those foam egg crate mattress pads also work well for wrapping the guitar if you don't have a gig bag or bubble wrap.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

Same here. Mine went to Canada. Lots of bubble wrap in a big box.

If it's a bolt-on, take it apart and bubblewrap the neck and body separately, cram them both in a box (the bigger the box, the harder it is to manhandle) and send it on its merry way.
All shippers damage guitars, UPS just gets more publicity about it.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

I agree 100% with Newc. If it's a bolt-on, do it like he said. I got my Model 7 from Brian (Superfly) this way. The box he used was just big enough for the neck to fit in diagonally. The body & neck were each bubble-wrapped, and then the box was filled w/ packing peanuts. I'm convinced it would have come out fine if it had been dropped off of a building. I'd definitely choose that method over the false sense of security of a gigbag + a box.
