  • Best solo of 2006?

A couple of weeks late, but if you dug anything that came out last year, what was your favorite solo? I submit the following:

Ihsahn - Called By The Fire (second solo)

David Gilmour - On An Island (second solo)

Dreaded Silence - Boston Melancholic Metal

yeah that Gilmour's solo was probably the one I liked the most.

On an Island was probably my favorite album of 2006. Good to hear Gilmour still has it!

My favorite album was Dismantling Devotion by Daylight Dies. Awesome leadwork on that disc. The playing on the new John Mayer cd was great too!

Oh Lord no. Rehash, vegetable Pink Floyd. Let's hit it! Pagan's Mind? Twilightning? Let's apply some severe musicianship here. (see also: 1990's+)

Thanks for your imput, dick. Seriously, you just posted to trash our opinions? Weak.

+1 for Get Out of My Yard

also +1 to Sinistas. It's all personal taste, so why post just to rip somebody else's opinion instead of posting what you liked yourself? I've already gotten some good ideas from this thread to check out some things I missed, so thanks, guys!

Yes. The one from Revocation's Unattained was nasty too.

2006 was disappointing for me for metal. Its sad when I think the best leadwork is from that Metalocalypse cartoon (Thunderhorse by DethKlok).

Album of the year for me was Green Carnation's "Acoustic Verses". So clearly not much lead work in that one. This year is gonna be good though.

                              Acoustic Verses rules. Especially "Alone".
