  • Doubleneck Project underway!!!!

Ok, don't laugh.......I bought this monstrosity to start off with for $29 off the Bay...

The seller described it like this...."It has half a hot pink fox strat body fused to a charvel body. I am not sure how the bodies are joined together , but it looks like regular old bondo used to smooth them out."
So, as you can see, it's kinda scary looking. I don't know what all those holes in the Strat side are all about, but I guess I'll be doing a lot of filling.
You can bet I'll be filling in that ultra ghey cutout in the bottom too.....what's that about, and will be reworking the space between the 2 neck pockets, not quite sure how yet.

Anybody with sound advice on how to approach this would be greatly appreciated. My idea is to fill the top body and start from scratch there for a piezo pup/bridge and the bottom body will be a single hum with a floyd. DXMG and DK2 necks will be installed.

So advice, flame, laugh.......bring it on!!!!!

I figure what the hell, for my $30 investment why not give it a try.

I'm surprised nobody has any advice for me.

Advice? Go buy a double neck body from Warmoth and save yourself hours and hours of time.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

start buying bondo and sanding paper, start from the beginning start fillinf in every thing and making sure your neck will fit in the pockets

LOL, I have plenty of bondo......and know how to use it!!!! lol As far as filling the cavities and that dumbass cutout I was thinking about using poplar inserts then filling the gaps with bondo. The main thing I need to figure out is what type of glue to use to adhere them, especially the bottom cutout. Would something like Gorilla Glue work well? I'd imagine that something that really doesn't expand would be best.

                You may have another problem.
Look at the neck pocket alignment. It looks like the top one tilts down a bit.
Usually they are dead even or drift away from each other.

As for what glue to use, good old TiteBond will work just fine.

Good luck... you're gonna need it.

I think you're right about the alignment, I may still cut this thing in half and angle the 2 pockets away from each other a bit......I'll decide that once the body gets here and I see how the necks line up.

I'm not really a woodworking kinda guy, so this is just a learning expierience for me. If it turns out cool, great, if it doesn't, maybe I'll at least learn a little.

naw just shave some of the neck pocket to make it straight, then fill in the rest with bondo, you don't need to go chop it up more that it alreadly is, i think you might want to think about active pick-ups that thing is going to sound like butt.

if you just want to practice your refinishing skills on a guitar body you don't give a crap about, you're all set. there's no substitute for practice on refinn'g.

if you really want a doubleneck you can play and that will look and sound decent, follow hippietim's advice about Warmoth.

I was actually thinking active, either an EMG 81 or a Mustaine livewire bridge pickup for the electric/bottom side and a piezo for the top. The top side will BARELY get used. This is going to be more of a novelty guitar for me than anything else.

Eventually, I will probably go that route....but this will be a practice/learning expierience for me......and who knows 1 in a million chance it could be cool. Either way it should be fun!
