Here goes and I hope I don't get real sick because I am like 47 million other Americans with no health insurance. Rent $500; Utilities $45; Car insurance $50; Cable/ Internet $95; Food $160; Beer and cigs $160. That's $1,010. Because I sold my house and the money is just sitting there, I earn $800 in interest. So, my net cost is $210 per month. Based on that, I have enough money to last another 100 years.:ROTF: :ROTF: I'm just waiting for the stock market to drive about 20% and then I will be a buyer. Any guitars or other stuff I buy is always with the thought that I can get my money back, at least, and if I have to sell a tidy profit. Ain't America grand.:ROTF:

Renting 3bed shit hole = $3200pm , bills $150, council tax $200, not to mention a montly london travel card which costs me a whopping $180!
By the time youve paid all that you cant even afford to go the cinema... (my local for a standard adult ticket is $16)
Atleast my local supermarket (tesco) is cheap and we have the NHS so we dont have to pay medical insurance (altho I have it anyway )

So if my real cost is about $210 a month, that leaves a lot of extra money. I don't think I'll live to be 156 years old. So, I could spend an extra $25/day. That's $750/mon. And that's why I can do what I do. Remember, guys I just got lucky with the house I bought and sold. I'm 56, so I have a lot more years than you do. I just hope everything clicks for you.

Dude, you should definitely move to Dublin (Ireland) for a year. Just so you can feel better about moving back to Texas afterwards! In Dublin it costs $650,000 for a 950 sq. ft. house. I kid you not. It's also $5 per gallon here, and that's cheap in comparison to the UK where it's about $6.5 a gallon.

And to be fair 5074charvel, there are some advantages to living in Germany, no? For example, rents are seriously cheap and renters have much stronger legal standing than in most countries (rents can't be raised extortionately each year etc.). Germany's great, IMO.

And chrisqUK, at least you have the exchange rate in your favor. 2k US is 1k GB. If ever you wanted a USA select, now's the time for GAS...

PS JC_Denton why not set up a website that's paid off by google ads? I know a Scotish grad. student that has a website based on info. regarding Glasgow. From the google ads he gets about 200 Euro a month.... that'd go a long way in Estonia.

I like were I live. And how I do it. Like I said in my original post, I have no idea what it really costs. Now, I am getting an idea and all I can say is "WOW".

The one thing I don't agree with you is that you are paying rent. If I was in the same situation, I'd look for a plot of land to own and put the trailer on that. You could write off the interest and build equity.

Maybe there is a reason you chose to rent I don't know about? After all the"monopoly" game is what put you in this well-off situation in the first place.

I own the mobilehome. It's a very sad story how I got here. I rent the space. I live in a very big park. There are more than 100 spots. I love my trailer and I want to stay. What scares me to death is that the land will be sold out from underneath me. I laugh now and am quite smug. But, the tract of land I live on is worth jillions of bucks. I am just waiting for the notice that says; "It's Sold". But, until that happens......................

I am complaining about the situation here because it keeps women out of work, which is economically insane. Women that work earn money and spend money. It´s really dumb to think that keeping women out of work is cheaper than paying lots of day care workers.

That´s maybe for the US people here to know. There are practically no women in top rank positions in Germany. Women get lower wages for the same work etc.. All pretty much derived from really old fashioned views.

Live with parents, pay no rent, free food, free gym in the garage. The only thing I pay for is alcohol, buscard, and the occasional Subway 1 foot sub. Buscard is about 250$ for a good two-three months depending on how much I use it.

Moving out to a small shitty student dorm would probably run me 300$ a month, governemt gives students about 300$ a month plus you can get studentloans(and get raped on the interest).

I have a friend who after paying rent has about $120 to buy food, clothes and stuff. Tis how we roll in Sweden holmes.
