  • US Health Insurance for all

I just don't get it. There are 220 million of us. If every single person paid $300 a year and a family max at $1,500 a year, why would that not work? Insurance is nothing more than a bet. The trick is to make the pool so large that the millions will cover the thousands. The new board precludes me from getting political.
I am a true ass set to this board.

That would not work because insurance lobbyists would not stand for it. Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross are all big business. Nationalize health insurance and that puts their business in jeopardy.

Yup... Plus believe it or not there's plenty of people out there that couldn't afford $1500 a year anyway.

A lot of people don't need it, and thus wouldn't pay for it.

2% federal sales tax. that would do it but no,,, we gotta pay thru the nose for insurance, and then pay for all the people on welfare's medicade, I personally know a few people who haven't worked for ages, live off the government and get all their medical paid for, burns my ass, Blue Cross jacks up my premiums twice a year, almost 6 times more than what I started at over the last 8 years

funny how congress investigates the gas companys for price hikes, but no issue to be billed $80 for 3 tylenols at the hospitals.

                  I guess I should've clarified that

I mean many of us are over insured already, and even if the government attempts to implement sweeping health insurance for every person in this country, the larger insurance companies certainly aren't going to just dissolve. For example, I'm covered under four policies right now with four different insurance companies.

The insurance companies would be out of business if they nationalized healthcare. It's a great frikkin idea, but the greedy bastards will lobby like crazy to kill it.

You think $80 for 3 Tylenol is bad... try 1 does of Zofran (anit-nausea drug for cancer patients undergoing chemo). $500 per pill in the ER. Yet you can get a prescription for a 30 day supply for $50.
                    Talk about price gouging (sp?)!!!

I heard from a "conspiricy nut" buddy of mine that the insurance co. hold billions in Bonds that they would threaten to demand payment on if anyone tried to nationalize healthcare, don't know if its true, but the Ins, Co.s have enough of our money to do it

It has to change. How can the corporate world shut out 47 Million people from getting the care they need? I am 56 years old with no insurance. The little tray of dodads that was supposed to fix my eye cost $2,000. The doctor's cost I can kinda understand. But, it was $15,000 for two hours and out. And it didn't work. The healthcare system in the US could be great. Spread the cost out. I know there will be a lot of you guys that have socialized medical. But it doesn't have to be that way here.

well that does a lot to explain your low Cost of Living. your premiums would probably be around 700 to a grand a mo. Health insurance is my largest expense, and I'm in good health (I think)

You keep the insurance companies and have a spaced out open enrollment. If the 47 million is close, the revenue would be worth it to them. We have been had on "Insuance". How much is your "prepay"? What is the deductible before your "Insurance" kicks in?
