  • Common cold

Hey guys, what's that stuff you take right when you feel a cold coming on?

I usually get a cold once a year or so...it seems like no matter what I do it lasts 7 days...farkin' miserable.

I never used to do anything, but someone left a bag of zinc lozenges here a while back and I've tried them over the past month or so. I think they might work, because in that time my wife has had 2 colds, and when I used the lozenges right when my throat felt a little scratchy, I'd wake up fine the next morning. My mom swears by taking pretty high doses of vitamin C. Lots of science says that it doesn't work, but she doesn't get colds.

Vitamin C, zinc and garlic are good to take to help prevent colds.

I tried that Zicam shit once and had the most miserable cold of my life. Avoid it. There are also reports of it causing complete loss of smell sense in rare cases. Not worth the risk for something which doesn't do jack. Vitamin C and garlic are good suggestions, but don't really make all that much a difference. Your best bet is to keep rested & stay hydrated.

Yep, I've been hit with it already.
Been dealing with for the last 4-5 days.
Running nose, coughing, sneezing, sore throat.
The joy of Indiana weather, next week it'll probably be in the 50's and the next sub below zero. Once you get it, its hard to get rid of it with the extreme changes of Indiana weather.
I just deal with it and if and when it gets too much to endure and suffer through, I'll go to the Doc then. Got to love to hate Indiana weather just for this reason alone.

Get over it Nothing will stop you from getting a cold and nothing will make it go away faster or prevent you from getting "Bugged".

I've heard bad things about Zicam too, so I wouldn't use it. Something about it causing strokes or saomething. Anyway, take 3000mg of vitamin C every day, and you'll rarely get a cold. It does work.

Just don't rub your eyes until right after you've washed your hands. I've been doing this the past couple of months and have gotten only one cold, and that was the time I rubbed my eyes without washing my hands first. That's pretty good considering I push about 400 shopping carts everyday.

Last cold I had lasted only about 3 days... I took a shitload of vitamin C and swallowed garlic gloves like crazy (cut them into small lozenges). Normally my colds last a week or more, but I swear by garlic and vitamin C.

I like garlic on everything and I drink a lot of OJ. So, I'm cool with that. We Vikings, however, don't get colds too often.:ROTF:
