And to think that some people think Jackson enthusiasts are narrow minded Heavy metal guys. Don't get me wrong...I am. But apparently they can recognize talent when they see it.

I think Prince would be suprised to see that a thread like this exists here.

Am I high, or did Prince do the R&R Hall of Fame Induction a couple of years ago and ripped As My Guitar Gently Weeps? Or was that SNL? Eh, either way, the dude has chops.

Dont get me wrong, I think hes an extremely talented musician and I give him alot of respect for that.

I just found absolutley nothing special about his guitar playing last night at all. Guess Im in the minority here... nothing wrong with that though!

I think that tele is a very cheap Tokai copy that he's had forever.

But yeah, good guitar player and he had some good tunes back at the beggining of MTV

I guess some of the respect comes from the fact that he really is a full talent (well except when he tries to rap he has 0 talent on that I bet people on this board who despise rap are better than him) as far as production song writing singing and playing multiple instruments. I believe he recorded his first as the only musician (could be worng) Anyway you saw his chops which maybe didn't blow you away but still you saw he had chops at least that are pretty impressive on the biggest stagethere is the Superbowl and in horrible weather conditions. You also saw him as more than just a guitar player in those conditions. Some can imagine like I how amazing his guitar playing would be say he didn't focus on the other aspects of his talents. Could he be as good as Vai? Who knows he seems like he has skill and dedication to be. Now music is art and art is taste but I doubt many of the posters in this thread listen to Prince often maybe like once every two years at best (like me) but ignoring that he is a fantastic player eh I seem it is tough to do.

One of my favorite songs is the Guitar Battle cover of Purple Rain, but as last night proved, nothing beats the original. Prince was fantastic. I doubt any of you would be spot on playing in a fucking sideways downpour. Took serious balls to go out there and play in that and I've always felt being a lead singer and lead guitarist is one of the toughest things. Prince is very skilled at both. Major hats off to the man. Also hats off to the fact that he is constantly banging some of the hottest women alive yet somehow people still think he's gay. Now THAT takes talent.

It's actually made by Hohner. They released a "Prinz" model a number of years ago. The first ones had Tele heads but they got the letter from Fender so they were changed to some dorky Hohner headstock.

Quoted for truth. Prince kicked ASS at the SB. Best part - as has been pointed out in this thread - is that it was CLEARLY live (at least his vox and guitar).

That dude is one of the best pop performers of our generation, bar none. He's got it all - the look, the talent and the balls to play in driving rain for the 3rd largest watched TV broadcast ever.

I don't know how the NFL is gonna possibly top this rock god's performance.

Perhaps they can coax Supertramp out to play in a blizzard.:ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF:

(chill out, I'm kidding....................Supertramp vowed never to get back together)

I was pleasantly surprised by Prince at the SB. Hated the Tele's tone though. Very thin.

I gotta agree. I saw him play While My Guitar Gently Weeps and he did a great job. I was suprised.

Also thought his playing in the rain was good - thought it was better than his Johnny B. Good performance at the conference.

Oh I live in MN by the way which has nothing to do with it. My girlfriend dragged me to one of his concerts at the Target Center where he did all his funk shit. That sucked.

Saw him at the Quest - a bar which he had ownership in at one time. He is very small.
