[QUOTE=fett;870090]I scored an 86. Being 56 years old and a beer drinker for 40 years, I guess it caught up with me. I feel really stupid just now so be gentle.[/QUOTE

Wow, you'd be a genius over in the drum forums.:ROTF:

It's quite common for people with "above-average" IQ to not do well in school. When a person grasps what is being taught very quickly it's hard not to get bored. I think it makes it easier to fall into a habit of coasting through life. If you can pass the tests without studying and pass the class on test scores alone (not doing homework) it's easy to get a 'why bother' attitude.

        Wow.... That is my life...

Except I dummied down a LOT in life to be accepted by friends as I was made fun of and often just made to feel out of place a lot for not being a dumbass like them...

And as an adult, I AM Depressed and unmotivated...

        Sigh...

Yeah, and you just filled in the part of my life's story I didn't bother posting.

I hear ya brother. Better than you might think.

EDIT: Oh, and the reason I never aced all my tests was because if there was an answer I didn't know, I wouldn't answer it... I wouldn't bother going through my answers to double check them, nor did I care. I knew I'd get most of them right anyways... I'd also always be like the first or second person to finish the test too.

Funny, cause one of my math teachers insisted I was always cheating. I'd come up with the correct answers in Algebra, but never do the corresponding "figuring out in writing part". He even accused me loudly in class... I responded "how the hell could I cheat if I'm the first one finished?"... it stumped him for a while. Until he realized the faded Levi jacket, bell bottom boot wearin long haired guy was the smartest guy in his class....

So it's unanimous then (well nearly unanimous, sorry Fett hee hee), we're all too smart for our own good. LMAO

If you guys figure out the secret to getting off my ass and doing something with my life, please clue me in.

I'm one of the smart kids that was actually really motivated but it didn't last beyond high school. I went to an elite college for awhile and hated it now I'm at a normal school and I'm one of the "smart people" again. I do just enough work to get by with decent grades (which usually means I just go to exams) and that's good enough for me. The things I actually care about in life are people and music so that is what I spend my time on.

When I was in 7th grade, our school was one of a handful in California that tested out a new test, the Stanford Acheivement Test. The professor who coordinated the test came to my school and visited me for about a half hour. He told me to study hard and that if I kept good grades through high school I could go anywhere I wanted, and got some letter of recognition... It was all very weird. My parents were repeatedly asked if they would give me permission to skip several grades, but they never gave consent. I ended up dropping out and getting my Highschool Proficiency certificate.

crap, that sounds familiar. I did struggle a little more in the last year or so of high school, but mainly because I'd cruised with Bs & As to that point that I had developed absolutely no study skills.

Although, one of my teachers (who I got on really well with and considered a friend) got frustrated and asked if I could make a concerted effort in the 3rd term of my last year in the 2 subjects I took with her. So, because we were friends, I made an effort and finished the term with 92% in physics & 86% in applied mathematics. She was ecstatic and said if could apply myself in the same manner in the last term, with 2 good terms for the year, I would lift my grade for the year to a B+. I said, "you asked me to try for the term, so I did". Stupid, shitty attitude and my final results reflected it. Wished I'd actually tried harder at school now.

Yeah, I was just smart enough to be able to screw around in school all the time and at the last minute do enough to get a grade (if I wanted to)... Got bored and smoked a lot of pot it seems to kill the time. Bad move...

Wish I'd have taken advantage of being somewhat smart and did something with it all. I'm a pretty well rounded guy and there isn't much that comes at me that I can't handle as far as skills. I can do most anything from building houses, to cars, to computers. I need it done, I just figure it out. But, I just never made a well paying career out of any of it... Guess I never figured "that" out...

No motivation... Yet, it seems I have a lot that should motivate me...

I was just kidding. I was one of the ones that could skate through school. I was a whiz when it came to tests.

                        Totally!
I missed ALOT of school through depression/stress, including the last quarter of a year, but still managed to keep my test scores around 66% across the board, obviously peaking in maths and music, lowering in english and science (was in pretty much the best science class, zero work done!). I only failed one test, that I threw on purpose cause I wasnt finishing high school. Never studied. Didnt pay a whole lot of attention in class, no way applying myself.
School certificate (grade 10 here, ~16years old) was funny, cause in the maths test I found an entire section I had never even seen before! I musta missed that whole subject through absence. I did pretty good in it though, just using logic to solve the questions and showing the working out. I could get 3 outta 5 with the wrong answer! Oh, and I also finished my english exam with about 45 minutes left and I ended up having a 15minute nap. I thought that was neat (and stoked I didnt start snoring!).

I was all keen on finishing high school, even though it was pretty tough attending for me, but a clerical error meant my final decisive year would have included lunch time, pre and post school classes. I had to do years 11 and 12 general studies in one year. Also I had to choose between music OR computers. What type of shitty setup is that! Your passion or the predictable, obvious career path. Obviously I chose computers and after leaving school hit up a part time office manager type role and found out that I absolutely abhor business/office environments.

Now I'm still doing pretty much what I did when I was absent from school alot, hang out jamming, hittin' the net and whatever the fuck I want to (particularly to challenge myself). Theres no money in it, but I'm pretty happy.

                            Your IQ score is 135

This number is based on a scientific formula that compares how many questions you answered correctly on the Classic IQ Test relative to others.

Your Intellectual Type is Facts Curator. This means you are highly intelligent and have picked up an impressive and unique collection of facts and figures over the years. You've got a remarkable vocabulary and exceptional math skills — which puts you in the same class as brainiacs like Bill Gates. And that's just some of what we know about you from your test results.
Took me about 20 minutes with distractions.

                                135. Go me. People tell me I'm smart, I guess cause they're stupid. Unfortunately I now work a job that involves zero thought, so I'll probably dumb down even more til my enlistment is up. I went through one of the toughest schools in the Navy (electronics technician). Crammed my ass off for 9 months learning about solid state components/circuits, transistor theory, digital/logic circuits, radar/communications fundamentals etc, and then some. Testing involved troubleshooting down to component level. Get to my first ship and find out they'd rather spend money on a whole new module/system instead of let you troubleshoot. So all that knowledge/training is wasted. I guess it doesn't matter though, you just have to be lucky and kiss enough ass to excel in the Navy (for the most part). To think, the whole reason I'm in this field:
Recruiter: "What do you like to do?"
                                Me: "Play guitar."
                                Recruiter: "Electric?"
                                Me: "Yeah."
Recruiter: "How about being an electronics technician?"
Yeah, so I got a 135. What the hell am I talking about anymore. Gotta do something to kill the next 4 hours before I can go home.
