Recording software - from PC to Mac?

Ok, computer n00b question
Some months ago my uncle gave me all this recording software, Protools, Cubase, and a ton of plugins, you name it, most of it was there, but it was mostly cracked versions he'd downloaded from the net. But he got them to work just fine.
Here's the deal: He was running the programs in Windows, and they were transferred to my PC via USB. Now I'm using mainly a Mac.
I've copied all the programs to a portable storage space (or whatever it's called).

Can I use these programs on my Mac? When I copied the files I noticed there was a lot of .wav files, wondering if that will make it difficult running them on Mac?

In short: No.

In long: The programs were compiled for the Windows operating system. They make various calls to Windows to interact with hardware, display windows on the screen, recieve input from the mouse and keyboard, and many other things. Macintosh has a different operating system (OS X) which means that all of these calls the program makes will be wrong, and the program will not run.

You'll need to either buy the programs you want, making sure it's written for OS X, or have your uncle find a cracked Mac version of the programs.

It shouldn't present a problem tho, I've still got my PC. Just that I'm using my Mac for everything else these days, that's why I was wondering about it.

Watch that cracked stuff. I had Acrobat Pro 7 and it was loading me up with spyware disguised as error prompts whenever the program started.

Spybot finally caught it but there's no way to clean the program itself, so I ditched it. I've got other legal apps that can make PDFs - I'll stick with those.

Whatever happened to the good old days when people cracked software WITHOUT loading it up with spyware?

put simply: most certainly.

if you've got a mac, you've got garageband. you can import your .wav files into the tracks just by dragging them from the finder into an open track. crazy easy.

if you want to use your crack windows versions, if you have an intelmac, get yourself parallels or boot camp and enjoy.

but seriously, garageband is pretty kickass and i've had a lot of success with pulling wav files into garageband and going from there. lemme know if i can be of help.

Hey Sully that sounds like a good idea:p I don't have an Intelmac tho, I've just got an iBook G4. I know it's not a superfancy music 'puter but I'd like to figure this out once and for all.
Oh, and yes, I do have Garageband If you could help me out I'd be very thankful! Shoot me a PM if it's a bit too tiresome to explain out in the open

you can't run the programs in mac but you can use all the soundfiles.
Just open the garageband and drag the soundile into the garageband main screen so you would see a little green + icon. Just drop it there. Also you can import soundfiles into your garageband sample libary.
