i have a solid coffee table i use as a desk for my mixer and speakers but my speakers need to be elevated. i don't particularly want stands, just one or two wooden shelves, the equivalent to 4u's high. or am i better off hacking my spare computer desk to bits? the wood isn't very tough and i might eventually want to put my pc on it. any help is appreciated.

Figure out what ya want. How high, wide and deep and take a road trip the hardware/lumber store. Buy the wood and some nails or screws and build yourself a couple of shelves.
Easy solution.
