  • Computer guys PLEASE HELP!!! RAID0 = GONE

Hey guys, I'm posting this from my fathers slower computer with Dial up! hahaha *winey poor me*

anyhow, last night I was on my computer and was on ebay and youtube, and all of a sudden my computer CHOKED, almost like when something runs out of memory, the mouse moved still, about one pixel per hour, so I shut it off, I guess its my wallet's sick twisted way of telling me to stay off ebay!!1 haha

anyhow, I turn my computer on again and it wont boot, it gets past the beginning count and such, but then when it goes to verify the integrity of the Raid 0 array it just hangs, and it did this several times, it showed both drives as being there and functioning, but it just hangs, then I say okay fuck it, I'll go back tomorrow, so I go back today and now it's saying 1 of the 2 drives is missing?!?! and therefore the raid 0 is not functioning. I go into the bios and everything is fine, nothing has been changed *to my knowledge* as I'm the only one that uses the computer, the computer will boot from a cd, but when I boot from my WinXP disc and try to repair it, it shows as there being no drives to repair, which I understand obviously because I set this up in raid 0 myself.

so I'm not sure what to do? I've tried searching with google and found some results, but I wanted to post here first,

should I install a simple IDE drive and try to read the raid 0 array this way? to save what data I can and then just reformat and start again, or is there some way I can repair this? I'm going to check to see if the harddrive got mysteriously unplgged physically, but I doubt it as I installed a burner about a month ago and everyhting has worked fine since.

I update my antivirus software all the time, but havnt been on top of adware or anything else, but I havn't noticed much in the way of odd things happening, this was sort of sudden and unexpected*like always*

so please you IT guys HELP!!!! or please direct me to someone who can help me!

    thanks guys!

RAID 0 has no redundancy. If the "link" between the two disks is broken, you lose the entire container (partition, etc).
Sounds like one half of your siamese twin died and took the whole thing down.

If you have diagnostic software for DOS that you can check each drive's health from, you should do that.

I am guessing it's a homebuilt PC? Nforce chipset or something?
Name brand PCs should have diags that can check your HW, but you'll probably have to use something from the motherboard or drive manufacturer.

Check the power cable and data cables to the drives too.

2x the performance, 2x the risk.

Unless you can get both drives functioning again, you are SOL. Get out you backup image and restore from that.
