  • Righthander playing a lefty?

I'm curious. Is anyone a switch hitter? I just might buy myself a lefty for the hell of it. Any thoughts or experience?
I am a true ass set to this board.

I thought about getting a lefty and learning it. I was born lefty but my parents trained me to be a righty when I was little. Glad they did, cuz there ain't a whole lot of lefty Jacksons out there

      uh.... why??

I'm right handed so i don't know what it's like to be left handed. There was this whole discussion on a violin site a while ago, but.....

The way i see it, left handed people have an advantage since their fretting hand has more dexterity. Anyway, when i was a kid and first picked up a guitar, i didn't even know what way to hold it, and at first i tought it was weird that the left hand had to do all that complicated stuff on the fretboard.

      ... just my $0.02.

I may one of these days get a lefty Strat and play it righty for fun.

I'd think it might be an advantage. I'm a lefty playing a righty guitar and feel that I'm more coordinated with my fretting hand

That's exactly what I have been wondering, too. I still think it's weird, but it's hard to compare. If I started playing a lefty now, I would surely learn to play all the stuff much faster because it already is in the brain... just gotta reverse it and train the fingers.

So is a lefty better of learning guitar right-handed? Any scientific facts?

I'm a lefty, but I play regular right-handed guitars. That's the way that always felt natural to me, I've tried playing lefties, but they're just wrong!
                        I still suck though...

                            Lefty playing righty here.
I suck at fast picking, fingerpicking, etc.
It's so much harder than fretting and chording, which is what all my buddies had trouble with.
Glad I did it as lefty gear is tough to find.

If you are a lefty, go to southpawguitars in houston.

Will Ferrell plays lefty and righty. In the movie Winter Passing he plays lefty, but all other times Ive seen him play its been right-handed. Funny? I dunno.
