Post Count Rant

OK. I searched for this but didn't really find anything in the same vein so I'm going on a bit of a rant here...

I somewhat understand why they put the post count limit on unlocking the classifieds. Somewhat. But, as you can see by just looking to the left a bit, I've been a member here for a while now, 3 years but my post count is only 40 or so. Why? I don't run off at the mouth. I don't post usually unless I have something to say. I've lurked here for those 3 years, longer if you count the lurking before I became a member. I do "the right thing". I don't post worthless threads. I use the search function to find the answers I'm looking for. You'll never see the totally worthless "+1" ad from me. It's a waste of time and only used to pump up your post count...

But isn't that what this policy really does? Add posts that have no bearing on what was posted? "Dude! That's So Awesome! Wish I had one!", "+1", "THAT ROQUES!". You know the post. Just open one and you'll see about 10 of 'em. But the policy has made this the norm...

Wanting this forum to be a "family" is admirable. But is it really realistic? I didn't just join this forum to access the classifieds, that should be obvious. And I don't really have anything to sell, only looking to see what others have to sell and to spend some of my hard earned cash. But that's impossible until I ad about 60 more responses. I promise I'll try not to be lame...

well, i feel ya...a little bit. i have been around for awhile and there are memebers that are way newer than me with post counts in the 1000's beyond mine. i used to have your attitude and appraoch. then one day i just jumped in. i keep my "cool!" or "+1" posts to a minimum, but i do offer random stuff more often than before.

look at the stabbed poo thread in e-fraid of e-bay....perfect example. i am ripping on the stupid thing - mostly commenting for my own enjoyment....

i am an english teacher and i could VERY easily up my post count by doing like ron and correcting everyone's grammar/spelling...but i choose not to.

i guess you have a right to rant, but realy i would just jump in more and get social. it can be fun!!

yeah...also note all my spellng mistakes!!!! HAHAHAHA - tired and burned out after a day of "sentence type" lessons!!!

Seriously, I disagree with you. The "+1" means that someone is out there - listening. You say something and someone replies. It doesn't have to be factual concise info everytime someone posts. It's called socializing when bros say "I hear ya'" and "me too". Nothing wrong with that. I see that markD also said something about being social.

OK, I see a little of what you guys are saying. But with so many people registered here, how does one do that? The only way I've seen to make a name for yourself on these kinda sites is to either have an "in". As in a ton of info on whatever the board is about or something along those lines. Inflame people with something blatant. Usually that gets you banned. Or just as the "+1" posts until you have so many that people just get use to you...

I'm not a "poster" of any kind. I have been a member on Jemsite since 1997. I think on the board they have now I have about 500 posts. That's in 7 years. Maybe I'm too quiet...

Jackson1: I don't see your +1 arguement. Why don't you just say, "I hear you brother and agree with you" or something along those lines? Maybe because it takes longer than +1? Hum... Maybe...

This has been discussed way too many times. All you do by bringing it up again is draw attention to yourself from the admins. It's a rule, get over it, and just go about posting and get access when you get it. Besides, your not missing much anyway.

yeah, a lot of people are registered here. in fact MOST of the "main" people that were the big posters when i first joined are gone. guys like chuckracer, brett, etc....but i just kept plugging along and saying my piece...

i repost pictures of my PC-1's every now and then....

i used to HATE the idea of "+1", but i WILL do it now if i actually agree with something...

i prefer to contribute important things, and i do, as much as possible...

my biggest fear of jumping in on this board was getting blasted by "old timers"....dudes like racerX that act like total dicks TOTALLY made me anxious about posting.....

now, i just ignore his stuff!! i have no beef, but i don't worry about it.

i even had a chuckle recently when i posted some pics from a show my band did around new years...we played a KICK ASS stage, and the lights were cool....ron ripped on me for wearing shorts and a cowboy hat...i just ignored it and kept having fun!!!

BTW - i have no beef with racerX ron, it's just he is the guy i found most "dickish" when i started posting.....

it'll be okay. once people know you and recognize things will be cool....

And while I know it's a rule, my point was all it does is muck up posts with worthless posts by people trying to get their post count up. So in a way, it backfires. You really don't get to socalize with someone just posting "+1", do you? At least I don't...

People like that make me laugh. I never stress the dicks on the internet, and there are tons of 'em. Not just exclusive to this forum. People who find the need to do that kinda think must me missing something in life. That's how I figure it anyway...

In all honesty and I really don't mean to be a jerk here but it won't get an answer .. It's been beaten to death and it's not going to change.. The classifieds are for people who contribute to the board, if you don't want to be a part of the community then you have no right to complain about the rules


FWIW we do watch post counts when we notice it ..


Sorry, but I'm really tired of getting beaten up by people who feel the rules shouldn't apply in their circumstance and expect an explanation only to tell me why i'm wrong..Which tends to be everyone who doesn't feel like abiding by the rule to begin with ..

Forgive me if I'm wrong but the post was in no way intended to "beat you up" as you put it. Like I said, I'm not a big forum kinda guy but this seems, in my limited knowledge, to be not the norm. So I posted about it. I find it strange, so I commented. I don't expect an explanation nor will I tell you your wrong. Maybe it has been done to death, I didn't notice it but I only searched for Post under topic headings, not the entire post...

I still think it has the oposite effect but that's my opinion. Maybe instead of this being such a hassle, these kind of posts should be deleted from the get-go. I guess that would save time... And the social element as well...

It doesn't matter if you agree with it. It is the rule. Live with it or move on. It took me quite a while to get 100 posts but is quite easy to do in a matter of weeks even without posting +1 all the time.
