I have a 12-guage pump in my closet at home for self defense now. I am more looking to have fun going to the range and shooting a pistol. I have always enjoyed shooting pistols and now that there will be an indoor range near me I have a reason to finally buy one for myself.

The only 9mm I have is a Glock 17. The rest of my handguns are larger cal. The 17 is a great shooting gun, but a little on the large size for concealment.Scott

It is actually a crime to wave it around or show it to someone to intimidate them - license or no license. Carrying unconcealed and loaded is a crime.
I understand arizona may have an unconcealed license, but i don't know for sure.
In Arizona you are allowed to carry a loaded weapon but it must NOT be concealed. There are places in Texas that are the same but it's mostly west Texas.

I own and carry both a 9mm and 10mm. the 9mm is a Springfield XD. Itis perfect. Has all the advantages of all the other 9mm combat pistols in its class ( SIG GLOCK etc ) and more. Wonderful handgun.
The 10mm is a TANFAGLIO Witness sold by EA Arms in south florida. Great weapon. Dont make "its only 1 mm difference mistake" like most people,. It does more ballistic damage than a 45. To make a .40 cal round they cut a 10mm cart in 1/2. I use it for hunting Hogs and so forth. very expensive to shoot.
As far as the advice you receieved above.... focus on being responsible not a gun nut jackass. Practice safty drill and handling drills. For home storage buy SWAT rounds as oppsed to the holow point hydrashock most gun nuts use. the SWAT round is designed to release all of its energy up[on impact - read - you round doesn't travel for miles after is passes throigh the body or wall or whatever. The stopping power is amazing with those.
I hope you never have to point it at another human being. It can be a very rewqarding hobby for sure.

You can wear a loaded pistol without a license as long as you are over 21 and it's in plain view.
And you don't have any felonies on your record of course.-Rick

> Glock Perfection, all the way here. I have a pre-ban 19 in 9mm,and a 23 .40 cal. Neither have ever jammed, and all I use is Cor-Bon +P. Tommy D."I'm going to try and work it out so at the end it's a pure guts race......because if it is.....I'm the only one that can win" - Steve Prefontaine

I plan on getting my concealed handgun license because it makes buying pistols easier when you have your license. I don't plan on carrying a weapon. I just don't see the need. Also, I want a license because I plan on having my pistol in my truck because this gun range will be right on my way home from work and should I get stopped, which I never have, but just in case I don't want any hassle as to why I have a weapon. So I am looking more towards a 9mm that would be more for range shooting than for concealment. Eventually, I plan on buying a .40 caliber pistol and then either a .45 ACP or .40 caliber compact pistol should I ever feel the need to carry a weapon.

We just had a guy here who made a mistake of simply saying "can I blow them away" while on the phone to a Sheriffs office.CAMBRIDGE, Minn. (AP) - An Isanti County farmer is in trouble with the law after chasing an alleged robber with a shotgun.Charges were later dropped.. the thief actually helped clear his name.
Kenneth Englund is accused of chasing the thief and a woman and child at 70 miles an hour and asking the sheriff's office via cell phone if he could -- quote -- "blow them away."
The alleged robber is accused of stealing five dollars worth of gas from Englund's neighbor in the October 15th incident. The 74-year-old Englund has been charged with felony assault.
It seems the shotgun was unloaded at the time.. but nevertheless, an intent of threat was made.
If you are carrying concealed and a cop pulls you over, would it not be the best thing to show your license to carry along with your drivers license upfront?Last edited by charvelguy; 03-08-2007, 12:10 PM.

Sorry, a 9mm is perfectly fine for self-defense. It is not underpowered. In Europe the 7.65mm (.32 ACP) has long been considered adequate for self defense or police/military use.
Any 9mm with Federal Hydra-Shok, Golden Saber, XTP or similar hollow point are excellent performers. Shot placement with any weapon is key.
If you are a CCW holder, you can use your pistol in self-defense wherever you feel your life is in immediate jeopardy. A man with a knife less than 21 feet away from you can run at you and stab you before you can pull your gun and shoot without being harmed yourself... so if a man is on the other side of the street and charges you with a weapon, if he is about 20 feet away, you can fire in self-defense. It's called the 21 foot rule, which is pretty commonly accepted in the 50 states.
The 2nd Amendment: America's Original Homeland Defense.
