Just heard the bad news that Brad Delp committed suicide. Such sad and aweful news!

Family: Rocker Brad Delp's death was suicide.
By Associated Press Writer | March 14, 2007

CONCORD, N.H. --The family of Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, said Wednesday his death was a suicide.

"He was a man who gave all he had to give to everyone around him, whether family, friends, fans or strangers," the family said in a statement relayed by police. "He gave as long as he could, as best he could, and he was very tired. We take comfort in knowing that he is now, at last, at peace."

Delp, 55, died Friday at his Atkinson home. Police have said his fiancee, Pamela Sullivan, found him.

Toxicology tests by the state medical examiner's office showed that Delp committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning, said Lt. William Baldwin. Delp also left two notes taped to a door and letters to his family and Sullivan.

Baldwin said police do not know the contents of the letters because they were sealed.

The family's statement said Sullivan, Delp's children and their mother, his ex-wife Micki Delp, were grateful for the sympathy they had received and asked that their privacy be respected.

Brad Delp joined Boston in the mid-1970s and sang two of its biggest hits, "More than a Feeling" and "Long Time."

Delp had planned to marry Sullivan this summer during a break in a tour with Boston. A lifelong Beatles fan, Delp also played with a tribute band, Beatle Juice.

Beatle Juice performed a benefit last year to help build a new public library in Atkinson, a small town of about 6,000 residents on the Massachusetts border.

The family said last week it planned a private funeral followed by a public memorial to be scheduled later. Family and friends directed donations to the American Heart Association in Framingham, Mass.

musta had some personal demons he couldnt deal with.

You can't deny he had one of the best voices ever for a rock band! I dont know too many guys who can pull of those kind of harmonies and leads.

Just awful. But what sodd is this (and myabe they wer emisinformed): The radio station here said his fiancee was cooking and he said he was going to the bathroom, he went into the bathroom, and hse hear da gunshot. Obviously th epublished story is offical, but I found that odd she supposively said that.

I'm mostly sad for the people left behind that have to deal with it.

Yes, very sad when it comes to the point where that seems like the only option for someone, and it's tragic it comes to that for some of us. But, "he" wanted to be dead and felt it was best.

Sucks mostly cuz stuff that makes you go to that place, seems insurmountable, but is often over with in a while and given the chance to look back you probably wouldnt have done it.

In my POV "Suicide" is a option if you have a terminal illness that will impede your quality of life and become a burden on the people closest to you..

or the pain of losing a only child. I had friends that lived through such a horrible ordeal but they had other children that needed them..

I can't see "vaild" reasons, other than this..but that is subjective I suppose. Perception is reality and if death is a comfort to a miserable existence..when all other options have failed.

When pain is constant and severe..emotional or physical.

I lost friends to this, I always thought it was a coward's way out, but it wasn't my life to judge.

                      Absolutely Sad:
Latest how he did it report:
Police said Delp had sealed himself inside a bathroom with two charcoal grills sometime between 11:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday afternoon, when he was found by fiancee Pamela Sullivan.

First off, RIP Brad. A great loss. This is becoming more bizarre. I just read that he had a tube from a cars exhaust piped into the bathroom. That was from the aol news report. Very odd.

Alot of these stars seem to have it all, but you have to remember back in the 70's and 80's and even most of the 90's record artists got screwed alot of times. Unless you were in a band that sold many number 1 albums most of the time you were not millionares.

But if you got past your frist record contract because and still making top selling albums, then you were able to negotiate a good second deal and start making millions. More then likley he didnt have it all.

In todays music scene with myspace and the internet, bands can get a big following and get radio play without a record deal. This lets them negotiate bigger contracts.

Do i feel sorry for the record companies, hell no, they have been screwing the public and the artists for decades! They are now getting what they deserve. And dont even get me going on the internet pay to download thing, they are screwing people even more that way.

OK rant off, I could go on, but i do not want to take anymore away fromt his thread.

                          RIP.

He actually used 2 charcoal grills in the bathtub to do this. He left notes directing the rescue personel so they would be put in harms way. One report states that he used the exhaust from the car as a backup.

It was stated that as giving as Brad was he had personal issues. He didn't like himself and didn't value himself... it's really sad that no one saw this coming..

                              There's a letter from Tom on wwwbandboston.com

There's another report up here also claiming Tom was not invited to attend the funeral
Don't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~

Ya know, this really bothers me... no, it pisses me off.

I dont know what could have been so bad for him to do this... but what pisses me off is how selfish what he did was. His poor fiance, family, friends, millions of fans... He took the cowards way out and hurt EVERYONE around him.

Sure, he is at peace now... at the expense of everyone who loved him.
