  • New Strings

I have been buying and using GHS Boomers since about 1984 (on a Peavey Razer) and have never once bought nor inquired about anything different.

I think it's about time I gave another brand a try since I have seven guitars to string up (at least one brand has to be as good to me as the Boomers right?).

Can you all give me some insight as to your favorites so I can do some informed shopping?

Appreciate it folks, Thanks in andvance.

Hand made strings that are supposedly made using some process where they use 1.5 or 2 times the normal about of wire and tightly wind it into a single string. I don't know the exact detail about it, but I like them. You can't go wrong with Ernie Ball Slinkys either.

I like using d'addario strings EXL125 XL 9-46 Super Light Top/Reg but may move up to 10-52's for a while. They last me a long time and have pretty good tone. I was using some custom wound nanofiber whateverthefuckitwas and they were like 12.00 a set. These are like 6.00 and they last and sound great.

I've been using 10-46 GHS Boomers since I started in '86. I've tried different brands over the years, never really had a problem with any, but I've always gone back to my Boomers.

I also use Carvin strings... they're really Boomers in Carvin packaging, just less expensive.

About the same story with me and D'addario strings, both for electric (009-042) and classical (proarté mid-tension) ..... was also wondering recently if it was worth the few $$$ to try different kinds of strings.

Longtime Boomer fan..they tend to go dead pretty quick tho.
I started to switch off to whatever was on sale rotation nearest to gauges I tend to use.
I've used EB's and D'addario's with good success.
D'addario has great customer service... tho, for some reason, I am of the opinion their strings tend to break easier under more intense use. Like the color coding tho and lots of various gauges to choose, definitely a pro string company.

I think GHS makes strings for Gibson as I tend to like Gibson signature strings over Fender branded, which always seemed to have more tension to me. Markleys too.. I was diehard user of before Boomers.

D'Addario XL120's for electric and EXP26 Custom Lights for acoustic. The Player's Points program is pretty cool. I just got two t-shirts and a couple of pint glasses for free just for using their strings.
