I still laugh at the guy guy that called my Charvell a Char/ville. Yup, they are named so, after a little mining town that almost completely burned to the ground after the great bourbon fire of 1806, so they renamed it. Wayne Char/ville's grand pappy was the founder.

Honestly though, both the Hamer Cali and the Robin Medley have a very "light" feel to me. Great necks - flat, fast with great upper fret access. I can't get either guitar to growl like I can my Jackson bolt ons. Their tone is more "sterile." The Hamer is mahogany with EMG's and the Robin is Swamp Ash with Rio Grandes.
It could be the woods. Both my Jacksons are heavy guitars with thick maple tops and mohagony bodies, maple necks and fingerboards.
I have not tried similar body wood combinations in the Hamer or Robin.
The frets on both are a little flatter feeling than my Jackson PC1 or Demon. I prefer the bigger frets. The Demon feels almost like its scalloped. I love it.
Neither the Hamer or Robin come close in tone to my Jacksons when A/B'd. I think its due to the fact that Jackson uses a pretty thick maple top on their mahogany guitars and they have a thicker maple neck profile which I think gives the guitar a better tone.
I also A/B'd the PC1 with the Hamer Standard set neck and the PC1 had a deeper and richer tone.PLAY TILL U DIE !!!

My 89 Cali. was an Elite. Maybe it was just a bit better QC on those. mine would growl and snear all day long. The Guitar was my go too guitar when i had it. It just felt "right". Harmonics would jump off the frets. the tone was sweet and hot but still had clearity and deffinition. I want to try to find another one some day. Hopefully the same one. Since it had a unique graphic on it I'll know it when i see it
