Who cares if it's a guy or a girl? Gender is not the important issue in cases like this. If there's mutual consent I don't see a problem with a 17 and a 24 year old hooking up.

These things should be looked at on a case by case basis instead of throwing everyone in jail

Seventeen is the legal age of consent in Texas. Would I be happy if it were my daughter, No. But at the same time the only thing that would make that illegal in this state (tx) is that it's illegal for a teacher to have sex with a student if they are in public school.

I think the point here is that these people are educators. They're not supposed to get involved with the students, period. Should this woman be jailed, well she did break the law, but for all we know the sex could have happened at 11:59pm on the day before the kid turned 18. The fact that the judge ignored the plea bargain really bothers me. I know its the judges perogative, but was the DA's evidence really THAT good, could a jury have found her innocent, probably possibly maybe perhaps?

How many dangerous criminals get out of jail early to make room for people like this teacher because an activist judge wants to make a point?

I remember my health teacher from HS, what a dog, woof. I went to a catholic High School, sex ed was taught by nuns and priests in Theology class. Health class was like a dumbed down biology class, I think the school only had it because of a state requirement.
