Not defending bigoted speech, but you shouldn't be allowed to pick and choose, even though they do.

This is pure 100% bullcrap. The ACLU defends the KKK for crying out loud!! And what in the world does this have to do with freedom of speech?

        Everything.
Anyone in the US has the right to offend according to the constitution.
It's called freedom of speech and freedom of expression.
Don't like what's being said... don't listen. Change the channel/station, leave the room... you have choices.
I still think Don is a dick, but he doesn't deserve this anymore than you or I do.

Danastas, maybe I missed that one, but that is clearly the exception with the KKK and you know it.

What does it have to do with freedom of speech, you ask? The ACLU takes practically any case regarding some slight vagueness of racism when someone's trying to keep the black man down. Pretty common knowledge that the ACLU is single-handedly the biggest supporter of affirmative action. Can you honestly say affirmative action has been a good thing, seeing the many examples of the ACLU taking cases of affirmative action abuse?

ACLU is among the strongest supporters of free speech. Supporting the KKK's right to protest is not the exception, it's part of a consistent policy. Support of affirmative action has nothing to do with it, that's a completely different issue.

And amazingly enough they have been silent on this Don Imus media firestorm. Not even one correspondent of theirs have addressed this among the 24/7 coverage today. If they are the strongest supporter, I wonder why they are letting him hang out to dry... You are proving my point.

This has been over done to nightmare proportions. Everybody knows Imus knows nothing about sports in the first place, he ranks on everybody, and i'm not condoning what he said , and would be offended if my daughter was on the team, maybe, but what's not been mentioned is how much he's done in charity work for all kinds of people of all color and ethnical background. This is between Imus and Rutgers period!!! Who hired Al Sharpton to be in charge? It's between Imus and Rutgers, end of story. He doesn't know one player on that team, and his audience is not in the 18-22 year old group. It's much older than that. Was it a stupid thing to say? Absolutely. Did he say it with true malice? I don't think so. I'm done.
Not helping the situation since 1965!

Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong.

Has anyone stopped Imus from using the N-word all he wants?

This has nothing to do with free speech.

If I walked into my place of work and started yelling N, do you think I'd have a viable argument that I was allowed to do so because of freedom of speech?

That's because it has nothing to do with freedom of speech. This is a matter between his employer and Imus. Try pulling some of Imus's stunts in your place of employ (I'm not referring to the Rutgers stuff, but the Stern stuff where Imus walks around saying N-this and N-that all the time.

The charity is a hoax as well. That was a tax scam. Yeah, he brings kids to his $20 million Texas home for the summer ($20 million written off taxes) but he enjoys that the home during the winter, etc. Plus, anyone who defends themselves with, "But look at all the charity work I've done..." I mean come on.

I agree that this is way overblown in the media. Lots of other important things going on, like a war.

The craziest part of any of these stories is that anyone takes that a-hole Sharpton seriously. Doesn't anyone remember the Tawana Brawley incident? What about Jessie Jackson and hymietown??

What makes me sick is that anyone would take what he said seriously. I for one think Imus is an odious little dickwad, but this is ridiculous. He's a comedian....period. Do we see anyone crucifying Chris Rock for his racial humor? He rips on everyone. I've asked my fiancee and she says I taste nothing like a cracker...lol
Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!
