For a young guy, you are pretty well in tune. That's why this whole "I'm going to Americanize the World" trip hasn't really hit home yet. Where's the nationwide mobilization? They are too busy shopping at Wal-Mart. And, no, not everyone in the "60's was for peace. There were the same type of people in government and in the population that thought Viet Nam was a noble cause. There was a popular rejection of that notion and the millitary facts fell into place at the right juncture. It was all timing. It's just now starting with Iraq. Being a '60's kid, I had held nothing against our troops. But, I had a big issue with the politicians that put them there. Sound current?

Good point. But there was actually reason to put troops in Vietnam, but we got in there, did what we needed to do, and got out. We've done what's been needed over in Iraq, Bush just insists on keeping troops there to make Iraq more of an, like you said, "Americanized" country, which isn't what should be happening. Saddam is dead, we have no more reason to be over there. But how many people are going to listen to a kid and an old geezer?

The ones in power now were the peace nicks in the 60s.Thats what is wrong with the country right now.If you want to be free you have to fight for it.I'd rather fight over there not here.Thats what pepole don't realize about the Iraq war.The general public has no idea what the "big picture" really is.We didn't during Viet Nam.You never heard how we kicked Charlie's ass just how many kids were being killed.
        Really? well screw Mark Twain.

When I was 15, I did not have a care in the world. That was 1965 and I was in the most white, suburban highschool in the world. It is beyond my comprehension how you kids can do anything nowadays. All we did was go to school; pretend to learn; hang our and go home and play. Like in outside. Baseball, football on the street, and other things. We just had no idea what was really going on. And then we come to 1969. That was an eye opener.

Basically what I do. Go to school, sleep, go to baseball practice directly after school, come home, play guitar, get on the computer. Except on weekends, where I'm usually at a friend's house. This weekend being an exception because it's my brother's birthday.

That's fine as far as it goes. But why the fuck don't you just stay there? Stay away from reality as long as you can. It will eventually come up and bite you in the ass.

OT, but I have a cool Soviet army hat.

                                Big deal, right?

Well, I've had it since 1988. Story when I got it was that it came out of Afghanistan, but I've never known.

Okay, on topic, I've got a Carcano M91TS, with bayonet. First person to name, without google, why the Short variant of this rifle is famous in the US wins a... a... pretend prize.

                                Keith

EDIT: Crap, still OT. Topic is AMERICAN. Well hell, of course I like American WWII stuff.
