  • Is this a scam?

I got a mail the other day from "Powerball"..

Here's an excerpt (numbers crossed out, they're not interesting):

    "Dear Winner,
This is to inform you of the release of the E-MAIL LOTTERY BALLOT
INTERNATIONAL/WORLD GAMING BOARD. Your name attached to ticket number
    xxxxxxxxxxxx with Serial number
xxxxxxxxx drew the lucky numbers of xx-xx-xx-xx-xx, which consequently
won the lottery in the 1st category.
You have just won yourself the sum of 'ONE MILLION EUROS the satellite
software email lottery conducted by POWERBALL EURO E-MAIL INTERNATIONAL
In which e-mail addresses are picked randomly by software powered by
the Internet. Your email address was amongst those chosen in this
quarter and you are to contact our CLAIMS OFFICER with the informations
    below for Clearance" etc.

I thought wtf, probably just another scam.. One thing is winning something, but with the astronomic amounts there it just makes it that much harder to believe.. So I sent a mail back basically asking what is this, did I win anything? I got back a form to fill out my name and adress (no credit-card/bank-account details or pics asked mind).
Ok, I figured whatever, and returned it filled out.

Today I got another mail, saying they're ready to send a cheque my way, but they want me to choose between UPS, FedEx or DHL. And I have to pay for the delivery, hmmm... "note that you are to pay for your delivery. The reason why you have to pay for your delivery is that if there is any problem during delivery you can sue the company your self ."

I'm posting this here because I haven't talked to anyone else receiving the same mail yet, and if anyone else have any experience with this I would like to know.. Cause if this is a scam I smell a lawsuit coming up

Total scam. Seems like they are warming you up before they hit you with the real scam...

Remember as Rush said, "You don't get something for nothing"...

                          Gd86, read this article: http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/lottery.asp

Also, usually the answer to "Is this a scam?" is yes

My favourite anti-scammer site. Some of the things they get these knob-ends to do cracks me up.
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

                            I nearly broke her back

whatever that first tells you you've won sometning and later it asks for any amount of money, is a scam.
Nobody will give you anything for no reason.

Or if you wanna play with them, just tell them: subtract my shipping fee from my winnings and send the remainder to me. And see what they say.
