Abuddy of mine in Wash. -Tim Rose, he had a package deal, the # 1 harpoon head, along with the number 3 of 8 what do youcall them, LTD's? I'm not much of a V guy at all, and he wanted $10k for the pair, i said i'd give him 5 for the polka dot, cuz it was serial # 1, and it was exactly spec'd like Randy's according to brad kelley when i brought it over to his house. God, it's worth a bundle now I bet, of course I no longer have it. I found the deal on the Bay and that's how i met Tim and this place, back in 2000, maybe 2001. Did a lot of deal with tim.

I was going to say $1735 for a brand new Jackson USA SL1, but then I remembered that I once owned a used Ibanez Multicolored Swirl Universe for 24 hours for which I paid $3K. Great guitar, but I returned it because I decided that I'd rather have the newer, blacker and more manly version that cost significantly less. That also never materialized because it had to be ordered and other needs for my money popped up while I was waiting for the order to be filled.
So, final answer, $1735 for a brand new balck SL1. It's my only guitar, and my favorite ever. In the past I have also owned an 80s built Gibson Les Paul reissue of the '59 sunburst, an early 90s or late 80s built ESP M-1, and two Jackson SL3s.

I think I paid about 475.00 back in '78 for a '64 SG std.
400.00 for a '74 fretless wonder LP Custom reissue the same year.
300.00 for a '77 Ibanez Rocket Roll SR in '81.
350.00 for a '73 SG std walnut in 1977
400.00 for a '75 USA strat in '81
375.00 for a '74 or '76 (I don't recall offhand, have the reciept still somewhere) 'blackie' in '77
By todays standards.. those would have been my most expensive purchases. Believe me.. I wish I still had them all.
The only one that remains with me is the '75 strat body.

This turned out to be a pretty good thread. It begs the question if most all of us stay within the range that these responses indicate, "Who buys all these mutl-thousand dollar guitars? And why"I am a true ass set to this board.

Approx $1600 twice, once in '02 and once in '06.
This year I paid a little over $1650 for a guitar that I've yet to receive. Add in shipping and it comes to $1800. Import duty and tax will add another $450, bringing the total to $2250. What the hell was I thinking?

If you have to put a price on things, I'm all over the place on this subject as I'll still buy a $100 guitar if I feel like messing around with it. It's not that I'm made of money or anything, it's that certain guitars scream at me to grab them for one reason or another. Whether it was something I always wanted in my younger days or for sentimental reasons. The most I ever paid was over $2000 twice and yes, it was worth it to have in my posession. Call me shallow or whatever, but it feels right to have/play them and I don't feel the least bit guilty.
Obviously this is Big Red, tribute to Mr. Crosby:
And this would be the catalog model 91 LTD Archtop NAMM guitar-Serial #J91-001 (first one created):

"would someone answer that damn phone?!?!"
