I don't think having a few nice guitars is anything to feel guilty about. They can always be sold and it's not like they loose *that* much value.

If we want to start feeling guilty, maybe Fett could start a "What's the highest price you've paid for a car" thread? Cars depreciate like dive-bomber on a, eh, dive bombing run. And the more expensive they cost, the more expensive they are to run. Cars almost make having a guitar collection seem like the sensible option!

Yes, I did say almost. I can't suspend my disbelief that far.

By the way Dave, those two sure are sweet guitars; well worth what you paid for them. On the Pro the inlays look more like abalone than MoP. And Big Red is, indeed, impressively both big and red!

Now stop it, you're giving me GAS! Looking forward to the next installment in your guitar building thread Dave.

Well how about a "Guess the highest amount Fett has paid for a car thread"?

I've never paid that much for a car, but I have bought unwisely, spending new-car money on ten year old sports cars. Darn: much like GAS, even talking about it makes me tempted to do it again... who needs reliability when you can break down in style?

I'll save you the suspense. The highest price I ever paid for a car was $4,000. And that was a 1966 Mustang Fastback. 4 speed.

@ $2,000 into my 1977 Les Paul Custom maple neck/natural finish, late '70s Dimarzios- built in the old Kalamazoo factory. This one's my top dollar ever spent!
$950 into a 1979 Les Paul Custom, tobacco sunburst, original P/Us and case-
$700 into each of my 1997 Ontario Dinkys (the H-H-S configuration DK-1s) - one all black the other with a quilt top tobacco sunburst type finish & gold hardware- original Seymours- got one new at a music store!
$600 into # 2710 Jackson Dinky in Fire Crackle finish, with Grover Jackson's signature on the back of the headstock and numbered 65/100. Neck plate says San Dimas TM, headstock says R. Rosewood board with dots- Original case, too. Recently acquired!
$400 for a RR2 USA bolt on with case- recently purchased-
$400 for a brand new Jenna Jameson Jackson King V- no case yet, but SOON- came in its shipping box from Japan-

$350 for a 1985 Fender Stratocaster, MIJ, all original in the ivory/cream color, rosewood fretboard with no skunk stripe, autographed by Ritchie Blackmore, Vinnie Moore, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Steve Vai. Added a tweed imitation of a Fender tweed case from GC as I aquired it in the original box it shipped in from Japan- I probably put the second set of strings this guitar has ever had on it, it's so minty....lost some verification pics, but still have Malmsteen and Moore pics-

I've had so many others over the years it would be hard to remember them all or the room to list them if I did!
Notables no longer owned: BC Rich Eagle from the late '70s custom built for Brad Whitford of Aerosmith....Sky blue pearl with the step shaped tuners, 200 knobs, and the original wood headstock with the MOP "R" inlay- paid $750 for it in 1982! I found a guy in San Diego who claimed he had one of Warren de martini's blood Drips, and wanted 20k for it, this was in '01, i offerred 10, and didn't believe him, but i bought some other cool stuff from him. I never made the drive to go see it.
Not helping the situation since 1965!

That's a cool, cool car Fett! Did you buy it in 1966?!

I drove a 6-cyl 1966 Mustang in 1999; it belonged to a friend's uncle. I have to say, it was terrifying. It made an awesome noise, but the steering-wheel had about 90 degrees of free play before the wheels realised you wanted to change direction...
