Some guys really dug it as the hardware/FF changes allowed more flexibility. The floor unit with a footpedal and all was more stage friendly but the general concensus I got on it was that it really buggy in the software aspect. I don't believe it shared the same success as its predecessor as much as Roland wanted.

Its like processors going through various stages of devepment.
Some were favored over others for what they were.

I really hate those hideous MIDI devices, they ruin the look of a guitar... yuk.

I wish someone would make some decent synth pedals.... they do that stuff for bass guitars... some of that stuff sounds pretty good.... I tried Boss SYB-5 on my guitar.... guitar's signal is a little weak so I had to use a little boost with my overdrive pedal.... I got some pretty cool sounds... but still not quite IT.

I have no problems getting all kinds of weird trippy sounds with wah pedals and shit.

But I really need to get some good lounge electro jazz piano/keyboard sounds on my guitar.

Just played a VG Strat a few days ago. Great idea! It doesn't do all the fancy stuff the VG-99 does, wasn't intended to do that, but considering you don't even need to read a manual to use the thing and it gets alternate tunings, 12 string, acoustic, humbucker, Strat, and Tele sounds with nothing more than a twist of a knob AND doesn't even need any special cables but rather simply uses a regular guitar cable into any amp, the only thing I can think of that would make it better is if it was a VG Jackson
You can turn those settings off and use it as any regular USA Strat too. I need to get one eventually!

experiment too! I have it mounted on my new Carvin DC200 so
i have the Fishman Piezo, active/passive Hums...and the Roland
pickup on it! Now thats covering the whole nine yards there buddy.

Yes, I bought one about a month ago. Great guitar for what it does. I am real happy with it. Did you have specific questions?

The VG Strat is an interesting guitar. I get the appeal of a high quality modeling guitar that you just plug in with a regular cord. I thought the VG Strat was very cool.

But I find the VG Strat to be disappointing because they don't provide the GK output so it's a totally closed system. The VG Strat only has about 1/1000th of the capabilities of a real VG system. There is SO much more you can do with a VG-8/88. And you can actually do it for substantially less money than a VG Strat if you put a GK-3 on your existing guitar. Not to mention that you can also do MIDI guitar as well.

Your right Tim it can't do as much as some other setups but I was drawn to its simplicity. I didn't want to have to mess with programming or anything, I just plug in and go.

That demonstrates a divided pickup used for triggering synths. The VG stuff is nothing like that - it uses a divided pickup to do guitar/amp modeling. In product comparison terms, a VG Strat is like a high quality but less feature loaded Variax. A guitar with a GK pickup going into a VG-8/88 is like a Variax + a PODxt only the GK/VG rig will have more features regarding the guitar modeling.

Believe me, that appeals to me as well. I would already own one if they had simply provided the GK output as well.

I'm OK at keys so for my home recording I've played keys (and drums) on keys, but just a recomendation for any of you guys that have your guitars Midi'd and are looking for cool sounds:

The Kurzweil K2000 series is just awsome sounding, great vintage synths sounds and a dedicated B3 (The classic jazz/R&B/Deep Purple organ)emulation mode and of course the orchestra and keys stuff that that most samplers have, but the lead synths and B3 really set it apart from anything I've ever heard, really musical and inspiring to play.
