  • New USPS postage rates

In case anyone has missed this, USPS has introduced new rates and services as of yesterday. And not for the better!

I'm in Canada, and it will be very expensive, if not impossible to ship a guitar here from the U.S.

For the Priority air parcel service, the maximum length is now 42", and combined length and girth is a max of 79". This will rule out most every guitar case out there.

The Global Express option is available, and the max length is 46" with the
girth at 108", but the cost is very high at around $120 for a 22lb package. This is more than triple what the air parcel post cost was only last week.

Getting a Rhoads shipped from the U.S. via USPS is now impossible, as the cases on those are bigger than their allowable limit. Good thing I got mine when I did!

From what I've heard, U.S. customers will be impacted as well, so to be on the safe side, check on www.usps.com

Well, I guess that means I need to keep my Kelly and V (Both in cases). The shipping was bad before. So now a buyer has to pay 1/3 of the sales price for shipping?

all "big" selling/buying should now be confined within craigslist. Damn shipping out my 5150's gonna be expensive.

Well, the buyer eats that. Will this have an impact on what a guitar sells for? On the pricey ones, probably not. On the average guitar, you bet your ass it will. God Bless my Pawnshop.

They must be hurtin for money if they are selling the 'forever' stamps at a fixed rate now. All of the premium serves have gone up considerably. Personally, I use USPS the least for anything larger than a shirt box.

The other shippers will just pump up their prices. It's like the airlines. One airline raises ticket prices and more times than not the others will follow.

It's not just the larger items like guitars either.

Envelope prices, and small packages have also increased substantially!

I don't know how exactly these rate increases affect you guys in the States, but it sucks big time for anyone outside the U.S.

Well there's always UPS and Fedex, but they screw you even worse, so with USPS implementing this crap, the last reasonably priced shipping option is now dead.

As Nazgul so eloquently put it: SHIT!

I had my KV 2 shipped from the US to Belgium for $50, so i don't see why i would use USPS anyway...

Those shippers know they have us by the shorthairs. The ebay world has made for jillions of big boxes shipped based on "Old School" box size. Now, they are are going to pull as hard as they can.

EMS was really good for international. Now if I want a guitar from Japan.. I better pop for a 2 fer.
