Settle down. Both of you. We, in the US, are pissed off. We did our "Who cares about who dies?" 125 years ago. Now, the "Mature" economies have to deal with our worse nightmare. And that is a willing workforce with a cost of living that is pennies on the dollar and the capitalist pigs (I love that ) that will put the machinery and the "Cheap" (read that smart) Brains to work.

Well, without foreign labor, we'd be paying a lot more for products, but I think I would (as would MANY others) probably have a fairly decent job instead of basically being unemployable. My area has gone from a strong manufacturing economy to a service base economy mainly cuz of cheaper overseas labor and manufacturing costs (and well, unions milking companies to death of course). We're pretty much stuck working in low paying service based jobs.

Not to be mean, Skateboard bob? I'll figure you'll understand what I mean (and the bitterness some people can have) when you get old enough to get off the skateboard and work painfully hard for no money. Hopefully, I'm not stereotyping or generalizing you.

Shame your country is sacrificing everything to gain commerce. Human life is cheap there, and they are poisoning their environment like the world has never quite seen before. I hate to see what long term damage is going to be, but it looks grim for them.

Labor is typically a small cost for a manufacturing company (less than 10%). The inventory required to cover the long lead times often exceeds the labor savings. However, it seems most companies don't get that and are just sheep following other contries to low wage cost countries. So in some instances it is actually more expensive to manufacture in China due to the increased inventory requirements, but our moronic accounting systems don't view it that way. Some companies are starting to see that now and are coming back to the US. Hopefully, it will catch on.

China exports most of what they make (I have heard over 80%). Most of the products made there are low margin (less than 10%) products. Their currency is intentionally being kept low so they can maintain a cost competitive advantage. Growth is huge and people are way underpaid. Eventually, the currency will be adjust upwards and they will lose that cost advantage in the overseas market. Since they don't sell much locally they will lose most of their sales. This could cause their economy to crash. That could be good for us and other contries short term. However, China apparently holds a lot of US currency and could respond by flooding the market with our money. That would devalue the dollar and crash our economy. Fun stuff to speculate on...
