Hillshire Farms "Salad Kit" (It's a 5oz pack of individually packed salad stuff less lettuce and dressing. And that begs the point. ) Well, it retails for $2.79. I was on my "Cheap Meat" run and they had those for 99 cents. They were so fucked, not even I would buy it. Here's the kicker. I overheard them talking about that shit. Even at 99 cents, they have a 30% profit margin.

30% is pretty much a normal margin A restaurant for example has to get a 30% margin on their cooked and served meals as opposed to the cost of all the individual ingredients, to be profitable.
In High School we went to visit an industrial bakery ("Quintens", for those interested), they supply "fresh" bread and sandwiches to pretty much every supermarket in Belgium. I overheard one of my teachers talking to the tourguide. When they had a sale in the supermarket, on sandwiches for example, like '15% cheaper sandwiches today'. They would simply add 15% less flour or whatever to the sandwiches and up the yeast but a marginal amount.
Result? Sandwiches that look just the same but are a shitload cheaper to make, making you think you had a bargain but you were actually paying MORE than usual for LESS than usual.Last edited by GodOfRhythm; 05-18-2007, 07:51 AM.You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.
