If you get caught here without, it's a $101 fine. So now we have a nighttime "Crackdown". What a waste of money. The Seattle area has the highest seatbelt use rate at 96.8% in the country. Can't the cops find something better to do?

If you're saying it's a waste of money to pay the cops to crackdown on it, then I full-heartedly disagree. Just last week there was a family of three that was killed when their SUV flipped over. If they had been wearing seatbelts they would have barely been injured, as the frame of the car was not damaged at all. Having an SUV roll over you is slightly more fatal.Scott

There will always be the 4 or 5% of people that won't wear them. So we have State Patrol guys trying to catch them. That's stupid. They should be looking for the assholes that speed and zig-zag around cars and cause the accidents. That means they should be cruising. Maybe those poor people in the SUV had to get out of the way of some dickhead. That's the" ticket". Interstate Highway 5 is our main road. It's awful out there.Last edited by fett; 05-22-2007, 02:27 PM.I am a true ass set to this board.

How does this really cost anything? All they are basically doing is telling cops that are already on the streets patroling to focus a little more attention on individuals that are not wearing seat belts.
Also I don't believe it's just happening in Seattle, this all part the national Click it or Ticket campaign.Damn, I love this Interweb.

When a cop is told to concentrate on the latest "Crackdown", that, by difintion, takes his eye off what really matters. And that would be: Crazy assholes. Yeah, the trooper gets paid the same amount. But when the Hats say: "I want you guys to find me the 4 in 100 that aren't wearing their seatbelts." What's a poor trooper to do?Last edited by fett; 05-22-2007, 02:46 PM.I am a true ass set to this board.

Me to.:ROTF: :ROTF: I pat my chest just to make sure it's there. Sometimes, I forget and it's like "Oh!! Shit". :ROTF: I don't think my shoulder strap even works. I just stay away from everyone when I drive.I am a true ass set to this board.

Basically, it also gives them a "publicly stated" reason to pull people over and check whoever they wish at the time, and that helps save them from being accused of profiling or whatever.
They catch a LOT of people that have warrants, are DUI, or carrying misc things they shouldn't, etc etc on them through use of these "crackdowns".
For the most part, 99% of time seatbelts will save your ass. Sadly, my worst accident ever, I would be dead had I had a seatbelt on. I was ejected and the front seat area of the car where I "was" at, was destroyed. Belted in, I'd have been smashed bad.
I mostly wear them now nonetheless.
