Exactly. And those little pricks in their little Japanese hotrods. (Now, there is a oximoron:ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF: ) And all the rest of the assholes. In Seattle, there ought to pull over that 96.8% of the people that don't know how to drive. This thread is going faster than I can type.

I had a weird rollover, the roof was crushed on the driver side all the way down to the dashboard, but the door pillar where the seat belt was attached was not crushed down. Even the highway patrolman admitted that I would have been in deep shit if I would have been buckled in. I wear my belt nowdays, because I have to.

The seatbelt deal is a way net Positive. I have been driving for 41 years. My crashing days, all my fault, are way over. Now, I just buckle up and stay away from danger, I hope. I don't drive much, but when I do, I always watch and look for a potential problem. I see it and just back off. Here's how to drive: Look at all the shit that is around you. Stay way away from semis. Leave 5 car lengths on the freeway and watch the pricks fill in the gap and just backoff more. Never drive side by side. And drive with as much space around you as possible. And ALWAYS LOOK FOR A PLACE TO BAIL if you have to.

Seattle is like in third place in the states that has "courteous" drivers. Yeah, my T-boned ass. I have never seen so many people run red lights than here. If I am the first person at a light and the light turns Green, I count to 2 and then go.

distracted drivers is the biggest hazard on the road,
I'm all in favor of seatbelt laws but
they really don't enforce em a whole lot here although there is a pretty big "click it or ticket" campaign going on now. I always wear mine, especially for the last 4or 5 years after some friends of mine were envolved in a couple nasty wrecks,
I check the local cops in town and the fat buggers never have their seat belts on, I guess it makes it hard to grab your moon pie when ya drop it
I say the boy ain't right!

Talk about distracted. It just so happened that the sun was in the right place. This dickhead was beside me in the left-hand lane driving a Jap (sorry I'm to lazy to spell it out) pickup with a top on the bed. He had the "Bass" from Hell. I actually watched the windows in that shell vibrate 1/8 in 1/8 out. That shithead would not have been able to hear a siren if it was in his lap. God, I hate those speakers.

I drove 10k miles in the last 3 month, mostly on german no speed limit autobahns. I wear the seatbelt. It surely makes sense.

From a juridical standpoint I think it´s hard to actually make peaople wear seatbelts. It´s like the government telling us to live safely. Well, they could also make people not to drink, not to smoke, not to go to McDonalds etc, not to exercise no sports, not to waste time in internet forums and so on.

I am not arguing against wearing seatbelts, it´s just a fine line. On the same hand the government could also make the industry not to blow out all kinds of crazy shit chemicals out of chemical plants, not to add all kinds of chemicals in our food etc. But I doubt this will happen.

I am more willing to expect that after smoking will be basically prohibited also in private areas, alcohol will be next target, after that people with overweight will be the next target. At the end we will all be no brain public soldiers living in the very small corridor that our government allows us to.

So much on my thoughts about wearing seatbelts this morning ...

I didn't read this thread..I just saw the title Fett posted "Seatbelts"..

For the first time in history.. Cops can pull over anyone at random. We always needed "Probable Cause" to pull over a vehicle..which could be anything from license plate illumination, tail light out, headlights, cracked windshield, punched door lock..1001 reasons really..

Now with this "Clickit or Ticket" campaign.. give cops carte blanche to pull over anyone at anytime at random..for the sole purpose of issuing a citation...that's bullshit!

I'm a retired cop..this bullshit is not to "save lives" it's to make fuggin' money..lots and lots of money..plain and simple.

I was advised if an officer gives you a "warning" , and already entered your plate or informed dispatch..it's mandatory to issue a "citation"..because of the number of lawsuites the city recieves in c/w with being pulled over for "no reason". Whenever a officer doesn't write a citation for a vehicle he stopped..it was "no reason", correct?..this is just a smart tactical move to CYA the departments, generate $$$ and stats....see, look how many lives we saved!

My brother got stopped today, he showed the state trooper my "brother" badge , ..he let my bro off with a warning on the moving citation..which is cool..no points..but he nailed him for the seatbealt..My bro mentioned it was about $95..$$$$$$$$

                    It's all about the $$$$$

                    I have the inside scoop!

With all of the cops checking seatbelts at night around key ponts in Seattle, it makes it easier to cruise around the hooker zone near Sea-Tac without getting busted.

It depends on the individual state and how the law was passed. In Massachusetts the seatbeltlaw is a secondary law. That means you cannot be stopped for not wearing your belt, but if you get pulled over for another offense you'll get fines for non-compliance.

Back when I was a Mass voter many years ago the seatbelt law came up and the voters clearly shot it down. They passed it anyway and then the voters repealed it. They AGAIN re-enacted it and put it up for vote and it passed. By that time I lived in NH but it is clear the people don't make the rules, the select few elite do!

Right now here in NH the seatbelt law is a hotbed issue. We are the last state to not have a law regulating "adults" If you are under 18 you a required to wear one by law. The democratic values are taking over NH, something the native NH people are not happy about because it violates the state motto "live free or die" this state has lived by for so long. It's one of the things I love about NH. Small government and a value of personal freedoms.

Even the democrats here in office see this bill as being doomed. Not because they feel it is a bad bill, but because they are afraid of voter backlash if it passes against the will of the people. THAT'S the values this country was founded on.

It's my opinion that every person should wear a seatbelt but it is just that, my opinion. These miniscule laws that tie up law enforcement do nothing but take them away from more important matters and freedoms aways from the people.

Once a freedom is lost, you'll will probably never get it back.

it's not the metros around here that you have to watch. It's the tradies. Plumbers, carpenters, etc on the phone to their mates organising Saturday's Porn And Prawn night (I'll bring the beer!) with the back of their trucks loaded up with all the tools of the trade. So something unexpected happens in front of one of those fuckers, they're already distracted & trying to pull up a large vehicle carrying a shifting load. Fat chance that he'll pull up before taking out the mum who just ducked out of a blind side street driving her kids home from soccer practice in her grocery cart.
